So Recently, i have taken up Speedrunning Zelda, Ocarina of Time, and started learning mst. Mst is best on vc, but in order to get a japanese vc 1.2 on Wii, i MUST install Priiloader. But the problem, is that i am afraid that I will mess the installation up and brick my wii. So i decided to go back, check my BootMii stats and such. My Version of wii is 4.3u, And i checked and it says i have Boot2 installed, along with bootmii/iso. However, when i turn my wii on, it will NEVER autoload bootmii at startup.

When i go to install or uninstall bootmii, the first texts, it says:

https://gyazo.com/3e73cf24da853505753223cb43fbb53a

So then im like, "alright, so i can just install on boot2 right?" so i go and install it. Everything comes up successful as shown below:

https://gyazo.com/9b0f8df31fac2699e5e5e593a06cf2e6

So then i go to restart my wii, and it WONT LOAD BOOTMII at all, not until i go to homebrew. But if i brick my wii, then i wont have access to homebrew...

My wii was bought in 2007, I have checked online, and I havent found anyone who has the issue im seeing. Where it states i can install on boot2, then successfully installs on boot2, then i restart my wii and it doesnt load....

Ive looked through my config file for bootmii if you are curious, and the startup is HBC, and the delay is set to 0. Ive tried it on 5. Both dont work.

If you guys need any more screenshots or info, feel free to ask. I normally dont post to forums asking for stuff, so this is totally new to me.

So i am at a loss, and have no idea. I just want to play OOT and speedrun this game as soon as possible, which is why im offering 5 Dollars in american To Help me through this. If for some reason this site doesnt allow you to pay people for helping you, then just let me know. Dont flag my forum or take it down, and ill gladly take it down myself and repost it without paying anyone.

Im only paying the person that literally fixes it. Not everyone who chimes in to help out. I appreciate it all though. :)

I feel like i recall it working once way back when i first letterboxed my wii. But after that, it stopped working. Do you really think its the sd card? What kind of sd card should i get. I have money, so its no big deal to spend 20 bucks here and there, however i dont prefer it lol.

Also, i have never had any problems before with this sd card, so i dont understand why it would only have a problem with bootmii.

For Bootmii you can check SD compatibility here. I've only ever used 2 GB Lexar SD.

You can try moving all your files off your SD card to computer, use SD Formatter to reformat your card, then move files back. Your bootmii folder should have 3 files: armboot.bin, bootmii.ini, and ppcboot.elf

Or,

Delete your current bootmi.ini file and either use Bootmii Config Editor to create a new one or make one yourself.
BCE is a homebrew app you just load through HBC.

Or create a new text file paste this:

# Video mode, possible settings:
# NTSC, PAL50, PAL60, PROGRESSIVE
VIDEO=NTSC

# Autoboot, possible settings:
# SYSMENU, HBC
AUTOBOOT=SYSMENU
BOOTDELAY=5

then when you "Save As..." change name to bootmii.ini (be sure to include the .ini or it will save as .txt file)
If your 4.3u uses the 5 component cables and is set for 480p then change the NTSC setting to PROGRESSIVE

With the Autoboot enabled you have to press either a button on the Wii console (not Wiimote) or an attached GC controller in that 5 seconds Bootmii is loaded or it continues to boot into System Menu or HBC. If you add an octothorpe to the AUTOBOOT and BOOTDELAY lines they get ignored (just like any other comment mixed in with code) and it will stay on Bootmii until you use Wii console buttons or a GC controller to navigate menu and exit.

It's not really what you asked for but...
I'd look at getting ModMii and using UNEEK to build a NAND you can play from USB. (Or SNEEK to play from SD)
I had done it once years ago to build a PAL SM for some game that was released in US yet, but you stated the VC you want is from Japan and you have a US Wii. I know Priiloader has a Region Free hack but I thought it stopped working on 4.3. So you'd have to install a IOS80 that is made from IOS60 or just downgrade to 4.1 being sure to also install a IOS60 v6174.
Modmii can build a guide and get all the needed files for either, just say you are a first time modder and what SM menu version you'd like to be on. It uses IOS60 for all the SM IOSs to keep region free hacks working.

This is kinda stupid but arent you supposed to hold down the reset button as the console is booting to get it to launch bootmii?

So i just checked my sd card compatibility....It says it should work perfectly fine....So its not the sd card. Unless the website http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/BootMii/SD_Card_Compatibility_List Is a lie lmao. My SD card is the pny optima 2gig. Now i have no idea which version of bootmii i have, however, i do know that its 1.2. I just dont know what they are saying when they say beta 6 or beta 5.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Right now, im going to try to delete all the files other than bootmii off my sd card. I saw a boot.elf file on my sd card and it was in the root of the card, and i wonder if that might be the reason why it wouldnt work. Idk imma try it out tho. Ik that this bootmii isnt necessary to get priiloader, but like, i still want my wii to be unstoppable to being bricked, so that is why im still asking around if anyone knows what to do.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

So i just tested it with just bootmii file and apps and .svg in my sd card root, it still didnt work. I read online in one forum saying that bootmii doesnt work for 4.3. But the user that created the forum stated that it said it didnt say "BootMii: Can Be Installed". It said as ios. So thats where idk. My wii doesnt say that, it says it can be installed as both. Also, when i start my wii up, it does 2 flashes. First flash is standard wii. Second flash it flashes like 3 times really fast. Ive looked online and it says when it does that it means it can install boot2 i believe. (dont quote me on it lol)

Oh, because i stream, i also have my wii connected to a splitter of just the yellow, red, and white cables. Idk if that makes much of a difference.

The chances of Priiloader causing you to brick are very slim, I'd just install it and forget Bootmii.

And by the way, get a set of component cables. Your stream will look a lot better.

@lisreal2401 the problem with priiloader, is in order to install priiloader, i HAVE to install ios236. That is the reason why i want to backup my wii, because i dont remmeber which ios i installed everything on. it was soo long ago. Im afraid to try to install ios236.

Otherwise, i would just say F*** it and move on and not bother you guys lol

I just tried doing the remake a .ini file and paste what you had into it. It didnt work. I guess i can try reformatting my sd card. That i havent tried yet. But like the thing is, why would i need to if ive been able to load stuff off my sd card this whole time using homebrew and stuff like that. And what should it be formated to? I think i had it to fat32 Last time.

Okay, so i just reformatted my card as just FAT. And now i get a black screen when i load my wii up while pressing the buttons with the settings you told me to paste in. So does that confirm my wii can use boot2?

System Menu 4.3 uses IOS80, and if your homebrew channel isn't years old it's using IOS58. No application uses IOS236 except for mod installers, nothing more. You can't brick by installing it whatsoever.

Hey guy, you got a discord? I'll gladly help ya work out the issue over that or something if you want.
I'm CheatFreak#3799 on there.

Most of what people here are saying is true by the way.
You aren't likely to brick a Wii for just anything by installing an IOS and I'll gladly explain anything to you you don't fully understand and probably help you get your BootMii working again too if you'd like.

... My SD card is the pny optima 2gig. Now i have no idea which version of bootmii i have, however, i do know that its 1.2. I just dont know what they are saying when they say beta 6 or beta 5.

The Hackmii v1.2 will install Bootmii 1.5 (beta 5). On that compatibility chart someone did have issues with a 2GB PNY Optima when using the beta 4 release. "Boots to blank screen, sometimes boots straight to System Menu. Model Number is in small black text on the rear of the card." And they listed MMAGF02GWMCU-PA as the model #, some other user says it works fine on beta 5 but list EMET1276, does your card have either one of these markings?

Installing IOS236 CAN'T brick your Wii, the Wii will boot as long as the boot order, SM, and its IOS are functional. IOSs 9, 11, 20, 30, 40, 50, 52, 60, 70, and 80 have been used by one System Menu or another.
IOS236 takes a flawed version of the IOS36 used by games (able to run unsigned code) to install into slot 236. A modified version of Priiloader likes to have 236 present so if you were to delete/stub your SM IOS it can still run using IOS236 as Nintendo has never made a stub version of IOS236 like they did with IOSs 222, 223, 249, 250 and 254 so it would be present in the case of accidental update as well.

The brick concern with Priiloader only comes when actually installing Priiloader. Because it has to re-write code that is similar to a BIOS if your Wii loses power while it is being written, and gets corrupted, your Wii no longer knows how to bootup.
NEVER attempt to install Priiloader or Bootmii if there is chance of power outage, either from a storm or just a careless child tripping over a power cord...
A Wii boot process goes boot0-boot1-boot2-IOS-SM, Priiloader inserts itself just after IOS. In your case with an older Wii, boot2 is where Bootmii is installed. That's why it is the best protection, it runs before any other Nintendo code so with your keys.bin and NAND.bin you can always restore. Nintendo did release an update to the boot2 with the 4.2 SM and ended up bricking more consoles than softmodding ever did. (Bad code that didn't check for bad memory blocks BEFORE trying to write to them, Bootmii does check for bad blocks first...)

I've installed Preloader/Priiloader on 5 or 6 Wiis with only 1 of them having been old enough for Bootmii to have been installed and never bricked a console. A few of those I remodded a couple of times to update the SM as they started with 4.0 and 4.1 is better (hated WiiMotion vid...) so reinstalling SM means reinstalling Priiloader. My secondary Wii (Black Wii I purchased just to match my living room electronic) was modded with Priiloader less than 24 hours after purchase.

@DaMan4169 That is interesting, i learned quite a bit from what you just told me. Lets say i were to use version 7 or 8 for Bootmii2. Should it work then? And do you know anything about neek or sneek? I want to try emulating the wii to fuck with shit more, but i dont know where to drop these files and what wad i should be installing. i used modmii to get my stuff, but idk what to do after putting the files onto my sd card.
