Sony's mysterious PS4 Neo has been officially revealed as the PS4 Pro, and will be releasing this year on November 10, 2016. The console will cost $399USD/£349GBP, and will support 4K gaming and videos. Playstation VR will get a huge visual boost on the Pro, as well as older games getting "forward support" to allow them to be played in 4K resolution.

im not joking but i may be seriously wrong ive looked up on how many fps the eye can see and some say 40. educate me if im wrong i find this sort of stuff interesting

Some has got lazy eyes lol, look at the sidewall text / logo of a tyre speeding up, it travels a hell of lot faster than 40fps or 2400rpm before it blurs into one colour, there's even a point where it appears to go into reverse aka the Wagon-wheel effect

eyes dont have a framerate but the myth is we can only interpret 40. i wonder how many fps we can see before our vision blurs it into nothing.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by this. After the leaked Scorpio specs, I was hoping Sony would boost the specs of the Pro to stay competitive when Microsoft releases the Scorpio in a year. As it stands, the PS4 Pro is going to look dated already in less than a year.
The main thing the PS4 Pro has going for it is the reasonable price.

I won't be buying either new console right away given that I already have a PS4 , Xbox One and gaming PC, and the former gets little use due to the latter. I'll most likely be getting the NX before I consider either the Pro or Scorpio. But eventually, I'm more likely to pick up a Scorpio.

I was kinda worried for Microsoft when they announced that Scorpio would be the most powerful console ever, then gave a late 2017 launch window, because the "PS4 Neo" and NX both have yet to be unveiled. But yeah, it seems Microsoft will deliver on their promise for the most powerful gaming console. Who even knows what the pricing's gonna be tho. It's only my guess, but I think it'll cost significantly more than the PS4 Pro. I was actually surprised that the Pro was only $400. I expected $500 or more, like I do of the Scorpio. And, of course, if the NX leaks are anything to go by, Nintendo'll be outpaced yet again. I'm really hoping this doesn't squander their chances at breaking into the market, because I think the market could use another leading Nintendo console.

As an aside, this new trend of mid-generation console refreshes has made me extremely glad that I got back into PC gaming this year and built a new gaming PC.

I fully understand the appeal of consoles and the peace of mind of having a fixed format. That's why I've always bought consoles alongside my PC, because I know the investment in the console will last at least 5 years. But if consoles are going to be 'refreshed' in the same way that manufacturers refresh their flagship smartphones, I'd probably just invest that money into PC upgrades instead. I don't particularly want to have to buy an entire new box every couple of years just to make sure my hardware is all up to spec. Consoles aren't smartphones, I'm not sure people will be running out to upgrade their consoles while their existing consoles still do the job.

I bought a PS4 on release and an Xbox One a few weeks ago because they're really cheap here in Japan. With the NX due early next year which will actually have exclusive games, both the PS4 Pro and Scorpio are hard sells. Scorpio having the spec advantage makes it the more appealing console, but I'm still likely to focus more on my PC until exclusive games cease to be compatible with the existing Xbox One.

True. And it'd be cheaper to buy a new GPU every time a new console refresh drops than a new console, which is an entire PC altogether. I always buy one console, usually Nintendo, to supplement my PC every generation. I think I'm pretty sure Sony and MS want to have incremental upgrades every few years. They've said they wanted their ecosystems to be a "service," which I can only take to mean new hardware every few years and games that scale across. But that kinda voids the point of a console, y'know? You start getting into Sega territory with screwing over your customers.

It's going to eventually reach a point where compatibility with the older models of PS4 or XBox One cannot be guarenteed to achieved. It has to, compatiblity cannot be maintained perpetually because games would be arbitrarily held back to accomodate for lowest common denominator hardware. To their credit, Microsoft have been a little bit more transparent about this, saying that they're pretty much letting developers do whatever they want with the new hardware. Sony are mandating 'Pro' and 'Non-Pro' profiles to maintain compatibility with older hardware - something that doesn't seem sustainable in the medium-to-long term.

It'll also be interesting to see how developers approach it. Embrace the new hardware and design their games to suit the extra resources available? Or target the lowest common demoninator hardware to maximise sales? We've seen with the lack of utilisation of enhanced New 3DS games that devlopers tend to target the latter because they need the sales.

I actually don't know a single person who owns or 4K TV or is planning to buy one. Are they more widespread in the US or something?

Is it just me or does the PS4 controller look like it's made to be shoved up someone's ass?

PS4 Pro Controller needs more handles.

I might buy it simply for bloodborne assuming it gets a "Pro edition update" to support the better hardware, then again I can't justify buying a new console for one game :>

(Let's hope I live 2 more years for the price drop)

If that's the case spend hundreds of dollars on a really good GPU and you cant complain. Most of the world won't jump on the enthusiast PC master race. For me and hopefully every non-bigot out there 30fps is just fine for most games. Call of Duty or any other fast paced games will need the extra 30 frames maybe. I have played many PC games while changing from 30fps to 60fps and the difference isn't big enough to ruin a game at all...
Sooooo you changed your argument from "you can't tell without intense training" to "if you prefer 60fps over 30fps, you must be a bigot".

Lol if you tried to back-pedal any harder you'd break your legs.

Not interested in the slightest, Pro seems pretty pointless to me. I will stick to PC and nintendo handhelds and pick up for 200€ a Slim model in 1-2 years when the library will be mostly completed.
