As an aside, this new trend of mid-generation console refreshes has made me extremely glad that I got back into PC gaming this year and built a new gaming PC.
I fully understand the appeal of consoles and the peace of mind of having a fixed format. That's why I've always bought consoles alongside my PC, because I know the investment in the console will last at least 5 years. But if consoles are going to be 'refreshed' in the same way that manufacturers refresh their flagship smartphones, I'd probably just invest that money into PC upgrades instead. I don't particularly want to have to buy an entire new box every couple of years just to make sure my hardware is all up to spec. Consoles aren't smartphones, I'm not sure people will be running out to upgrade their consoles while their existing consoles still do the job.
I bought a PS4 on release and an Xbox One a few weeks ago because they're really cheap here in Japan. With the NX due early next year which will actually have exclusive games, both the PS4 Pro and Scorpio are hard sells. Scorpio having the spec advantage makes it the more appealing console, but I'm still likely to focus more on my PC until exclusive games cease to be compatible with the existing Xbox One.
