This is kinda confusing since magnets have no effect on solid state memory

Both the Wii and the Wii U use NAND flash memory (not a SSD)
I don't see how opening the console could fry the flash memory even if it did have a magnet inside. This is the first I've ever heard of that. Where did you ever hear such a thing?

my friends wii exploded when he opent it only 1 chip was damaged the nand chip
And you're absolutely positive that:
  1. it was caused by a "magnet" that has never been mentioned on any Wii disassemblies before.
  2. the NAND chip specifically was damaged. (what does it look like, and what's its part number?)
I do like how you're explicitly saying it's only the NAND chip that's damaged now, especially since you originally said it was the "hard drive".

Unless he is trying to say that Nintendo manufactured new Wiis with a security mechanism that uses a magnetic field to detect if the case is opened when the magnet is removed by lifting the cover which then triggers some sort of command being sent to the system board to wipe/fry the memory.
This sounds more like an FBI/KGB kinda move than a game system manufacturer kinda implementation.
As stated several times here though a magnetic field by itself cannot affect any component found in a Wii or WiiU and if there was one strong enough near you and the Wii to do any kind of damage you would have alot more to worry about than your game system's memory

The whole magnet chip exploding theory is total BS. So many Wii (U)s that have been opened since their existence and you are the first one we hear about it temp.

i and my friends wii were both opened my wii was from 2008 so no magnet but in my friends wii is!
so we had to find out were it was by checking the model number and find the specific place were the magnet needed to be placed.
when the wii was opened my wii was different because the wii from my friend had a lock and if that wii was opened the lock went lose and a shock was send to the nand chip.
because of the magnet it didn't go loose and we cauld place the mod chip in it.

the reason i want to open my wii u is because the sd slot it broken it can read not write :(
so i want to replace it but the wii u is newer it might have that magnet.

Why don't you take some photos of the "magnet" and the damaged NAND chip and post it here?

Incidentally, what is the "model number" of the Wii that has this "magnet"?

Pics or it didn't happen. </cliche>

AFAIK, the only Nintendo products that have magnets (that aren't related to speakers or motors) are the DS/DSLite/DSi/3DS/N3DS, and it's exclusively for the sleep sensor. There's also no documented cases (with photographic evidence) of these magnets "falling out" and "shorting" the NAND chip.

Also... https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nintendo+Wii+U+Teardown/11796 Where's the magnets?
(not linking the Wii teardown since that was likely done in 2006/2007)
