Its quite simple really. Dont attempt to downgrade unless you have a back up of your nand.

If over 9.2, than obviously you need to do the hardmod for the back up.

The amount of bricks currently is outrageous.

Get off the downgrade wagon....
The best thing to do is wait for KTM. Worst case scenario you end up with a soft brick, at least that's what JustPingo said on his Twitter.

It'll pretty much only brick if you're being foolish and don't fully prepare for everything that can go wrong. (Low battery, wrong CIA) crap like that. Since, I have not heard of a brick from people that know what they are actually doing. So, actually, if you were to use the "updated" KTM (Which is NOT safer than doing the other methods, just easier to do with more checks); Downgrading shouldn't even be considered to be done by you.

tl;dr If you're stupid, don't downgrade, even with methods that will be released later.

Start reading through threads...the brick rate is astronomical.
The majority of those bricks are either "soft bricks" or people who didn't wait until the downgrade is over.

IMO people shouldn't be blind trustworthy in a tool that isn't even released and is coming from someone who haven't done literally anything, only accept a dozen of pull request and make a dozen of typos (and thus saying "D-D-DO NOT USE ANY DOWNGRADE TOOL THAT ISN'T MINE OR U WILL GET BRICKED WITH A 95% OF CHANCE B-BAKA!"). (those are my 50 cents, don't take it personal)

I have downgrade my 2DS twice and my 3DS 3 times, no bricks.
Thus far, the most of the bricks (which there really aren't that many) I've seen recorded were from people doing something wrong on their end, not on the downgrade's end.

This thread was needed? With the other "Don't brick" threads, what use is this?
I haven't checked the "how to downgrade " thread in a few days, last i checked not one of the mentions to cover your ass with a hardmod. Its a very good possibility that everyone that has bricked dont even know what a hardmod is.

I played around with the first release and managed to downgrade twice without bricking, but not for a second did I feel like what I was doing was safe. In fact, I fully expected it to brick with how glitchy everything was.

If it was my only 3DS there's no way I would recommend it.

Instead of hearing from everyone who knows what they are doing and having a successful downgrade, we should find a guy who bricked. We can get more info from that guy than from successful people

I don't really see the point of downgrading.

You will be able to install CIAS....yaaaaaay.
Piracy.
-----------------------------
My advice would be - Do downgrade! If 10.4 comes out, even with a softbrick you're stuffed. The brick rate is astronomically low. I downgraded and updgraded way over 10 times to try and fix an issue, which I succeeded in doing, now on 9.2.
KTM just makes the process a little more noob-friendly. If you don't be an idiot you're fine.
