I'm new here and new to everything about hacking, I've never installed any hacks on my New 3DS XL (USA) never, never used any exploits before, so I got some questions.

1: Does that mean that the update and recovery problems regarding that infamous tubehax does not apply to me right?. This would be the first time I'm doing anything on my New 3DS.

2: What is KTM? I've read that term before. But I don't know what it means.

3: Right now my New 3DS version is 10.3.0-28U. This is the same as 10.3 people talk about right?. I should stay there no matter what and wait for a stable downgrader or a custom firmware for my version right?. I'm sorry if make stupid questions, I'm new on everything here.

4: I only got one SD card and I got games on it so I'm not keen on formatting it becuase I loose my saves (So goodbye MH4U G rank status...). I don't have to format it in other to downgrade or hack my New 3DS XL right?.

1. Tubehax is the *hax run via the Youtube app, not sure what you are referring to here, this thread is about memchunkhax2.

2. Kernel Time Machine is an 3ds app being developed by GBATemp user JustPingo with the aim of simplifying & idiot proofing the downgrade process.

3. 10.3 U is the only important part of that yes. With a n3ds especially you may well be better off waiting yes, they seem to run into many more hassles attempting this.

4. You can backup up game saves via a hax [ironhax, browserhax etc] using something like svdt. For physical cartridges the saves are stored on it. It's only for downloaded titles you need to worry, I think those are stored in NAND. There is also nothing stopping you from copying the files somewhere else, formatting it and then copying them back later.

edit - Didn't see the change to the first post by StoneBanana. Tubehax required you to set the DNS on your internet connection to a specific one in order to allow you to run a hax via the Youtube app using it. In short if you haven't switched it back to auto-assign DNS it will block Nintendo servers. Other people were also using similar DNS's to get around the fact that Nintendo was creating an update nag, that prevented people from using the browser between firmwares 9.9 - <10.3 currently.

I got it to work with a N3DS that was on 10.3 after a couple hours of retrying. It worked through menuhax v2.1

EDIT: Scratch all that it randomly decided to work after a few more resets!

Successfully downgraded to 9.2 from 9.8.

Buuuuuuut....

Every time an app closes I have to remove my SD card or it freezes up.
It makes browserhax impossible due to freezing up when trying to exit browser.
Anyone have ideas?

Can I ask what was keeping you retrying for a couple hours? Freezing, errors, etc.
I got stuck on steps 5,7,8. And sometimes with the downgrade menu. But after about 10-15 times on menu hax it worked perfectly fine. I was using ironhax and ootdhax originally.

That's great! Tell your friends so everyone can jump on the bandwagon for downgrading.

THANKS MAN!! Downgraded from 10.3 U to 9.2 U with menuhax. It didn't auto reboot but after waiting for 5mins i decided to hard reset it and it worked! Also this is a metallic blue singapore n3dsxl!

Hello!
In recent days, there have been many developments within the 3DS homebrew community, with one of them being kernel access! With this, we now have a way to downgrade 3DSs and do whatever we want with kernel on >=9.3 3DSs. What's that? You want to downgrade? Well then, here's how...

PLEASE NOTE: JP N3DS Users, you'll need to remove the 000400102002CA00 title in order to not get bricked! Not sure if other regions need to do this as well.

ALSO NOTE: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR 3DS BRICKS. If it does, I'm sorry, but it is NOT my fault.

CIA STUFF:

Need some firmware CIAs and can't find them? Never fear. Even though I can't directly link them here, I can tell you that if you Goodle (including the quotation marks) "[MEGA] [CIA/BIN] MSET 4.X & 6.X backups, Browser backups, Update packs (All Regions)" you may just find what you're looking for. ;)
You can verify that you've gotten the right .zip file and that everything is okay by comparing the file's MD5 and SHA-1 hashes (generated on this great site) to this handy chart below.

TUTORIAL:
Before beginning, remove any DNSs (like Tubehax) that you may have on your 3DS. This can interfere with the downgrading process. You may also want to back up your SD card juuuust in case...
  1. Grab the sysUpdater app from here and place it into the '3ds' folder of your SD card.
  2. Make a folder called 'updates' on the root of your SD card.
  3. Place all of the CIAs for the update you wish to downgrade to into the folder.
  4. Eject your SD card, put it into your 3DS, and boot.
  5. Open up the Homebrew Launcher in your entrypoint of choice and start the sysUpdater app.
  6. If everything goes well, you should have some options. Since we're downgrading, you can go ahead and press the Y button.
  7. Wait and DO NOT touch anything. The app will tell you when it is done. (It took me less than 5 minutes)
  8. Once the app prompts you that it is done, wait. It will reboot automatically.
  9. Bite your fingernails in suspense. If everything goes correct...
  10. Your 3DS will be downgraded! :D
COMMON PROBLEMS:
Issue: The app freezes at a certain step!
Solution: Try a different entrypoint. I was using Ironhax and got this problem, so I switched to OoT3DHax and it worked.

Issue: The prompt comes on screen, but nothing happens when I press a button!
Solution: Either wait a few moments or reboot the system and try again.

Issue: I downgraded, but my 3DS screen is completely black upon reboot!
Solution: Try removing the SD card, or you can reboot into recovery mode. To do this, hold A+R+L+Up as your 3DS turns on.

(please recommend any other issues and solutions to add here please!)

DATA GATHERING:
There is an optional little thing you can do here that helps collect data about the 3DS downgrade process. Do it if you feel like it. :)

Thanks for answering so fast!. really cleared a lot of my doubts, where can I get that KTM App when it's ready?.

Also I have one last question, my wifi has password, let's say I do the downgrading process (Which I won't until there's a safe method but I wanna be sure). Some have saved their 3DS from bricks by entering recovery mode and downloading the last update. If this happens, my 3ds still has access to my wifi password while in bricked state right?.

Hey everyone! Having some issues, so I figured I'd break down step-by-step everything I've tried and go from there.

Trying to downgrade to 9.2 from a 10.3 US N3DSXL.

Using menuhax.

Running into the "failed to get CIA file info!" error after starting the downgrade with Y.

CIA files are in /updates.

Tried getting the CIAs from "that iso site" and the pastebin mega links with the same result.

Checked, double-checked, triple-checked the md5.

Tried using Julian's sysUpdater build, as well as TuxSH 0.4.2b. Same issue every time.

Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be going wrong? Read through most of the threads all day today with no avail.

I have my answer! (If you're getting the "failed to get CIA file info!" error and you're a Mac user, this is for you!)

Looked through the filesystem with FTPbrony, and saw a bunch of mac-generated junk files.
Deleted all the files prepended with "._" in the updates folder and was left with just the CIAs. These didn't show up in Finder even with hidden files set to show.
In FTPbrony, if you select the remaining .cia files, you should see "102 selected"- just to be sure you didn't accidentally delete any.

Hope this helps someone who's been hitting their head against the wall as much as I have today!

It saves your wifi profile as a seperate file inside NAND, update do not touch this file, so don't worry :yaynds:
