I know someone who can do hard mods, was wondering if I shouod get the hardmod first before downgrading a 10.3 o3ds.
Is it possible to backup the system with hardmod? So if it bricked I can restore to the original system?

doing a hardmod and a backup will be safer. You should be able to restore a backed up NAND from a hardmod if you do brick the 3ds.

10.1 -> 10.3 -> 9.2
O3DS - U

Confirmed working

First tried Steve's latest build and crashed before completing installation of CIAs. (Got black screen)
Rebooted w/o SD card, changed theme and booted into an incomplete 9.2 (No NATIVE_FIRM downgrade).
Updated to 10.3 via system settings
Redownloaded starter kit + boot.3dsx and grabbed julian's sysupdater
Browserhax -> themehax
First try with sysupdater hung on Step #5
Second try I got all 8 steps
Installed update cias + NATIVE_FIRM perfectly
System autorebooted and 9.2 was a success.

Hi, quick question. How did you confirm NATIVE_FIRM didn't downgrade properly? On the system settings I was on 9.2 but I can't launch RXMode.

Just says "Failed to load NATIVE_FIRM: 4 Reboot RXTools and try again"

After all CIAs installed successfully, the last file to be installed by sysupdater would be native_firm.

What error are you getting when trying to launch rxmode? Are all your files there? (The firm folder)

If this is an rxtools related question please move it to an new thread or an rxtools thread. This thread is already WAY overcrowded with non-downgrade related crap.

You likely don't have the proper firmware files in the sdcard rxtools directory required to launch rxtools.

The abovementioned Failed to load NATIVE_FIRM: 4 Reboot RXTools and try again error.

In any event I'm reinstalling now. Not the end of the world, though I'll redo my NAND backup. I was following the instructions from this thread... and just realized I forgot to put firmware.bin in rxTools/sys. The windows batch script never worked for me but it was simple enough to use the tool.

Ah, I'm an idiot. No matter. Downgrading again and will report back. It actually rebooted on its own this time!!! I know, I'm stunned too. To clarify though, is there any error in the guide I linked above?

Also I just realized this isn't the tutorial thread. Whoops! My bad, sorry for the derail.

Hey everyone! Having some issues, so I figured I'd break down step-by-step everything I've tried and go from there.

Trying to downgrade to 9.2 from a 10.3 US N3DSXL.

Using menuhax.

Running into the "failed to get CIA file info!" error after starting the downgrade with Y.

CIA files are in /updates.

Tried getting the CIAs from "that iso site" and the pastebin mega links with the same result.

Checked, double-checked, triple-checked the md5.

Tried using Julian's sysUpdater build, as well as TuxSH 0.4.2b. Same issue every time.

Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be going wrong? Read through most of the threads all day today with no avail.

Hi julian. I tried to use your version but I get:

title:Exception;
main.cpp:148: Result: 0xD900182F
Failed to get CIA file info!

Mostly I just get black screens after opening it on HBL, sometimes the Failed CIA message. What can I do? I have a n3DS XL USA 10.3

EDIT: Tried also with menuhax and ironhax but I get the same issues.

Bumping my issue- same as Valkart's. On a mac, but I went through the SD and deleted the hidden files. Still no luck. Any ideas?

Same but on a Pc. My checksum is what it should be and I have been at it since yesterday. Have updated all files to latest sysupdater . I upgraded to 10.3 redid everything and still same thing.

Failed to get CIA file info! just means the exploit failed to load, all you can do is keep on trying. It took me ~20 tries, for some people it even took ~100 tries.

Successfully downgraded from 10.3 to 9.2! Though in retrospect, i should've waited for this to have all the bugs ironed out.
Thanks so much to Steveice, smealum, and everyone else who worked on making this possible.

Gonna try to install pastacfw now.

I don't use a mac, but I remember someone posting this morning to download and use blueharvest to clean those files.

You are right! It finally worked for me after countless tries. :D

N3DS XL USA 10.3:

- Formatted SD with SD formatter and I put HBL, updates from the zip file and sysupdater of @julian20
- Went into Browserhax and installed Menuhax 2.1
- After resetting and trying to use the sysupdater for like, 3 hours, it finally downgraded to 9.2.0-20U

For the N3DS users who formatted their sd card, how many tries did it take for the downgrade to work. I don't want to do it but if it's almost instant it's an option I'll take.

finally downgraded to 9.1, I believe what is important is you must format your 3ds even sd card before you perform this process.
