I was able to install this one, but it requires L held to boot. Wasn't there a version that would boot to HBL automatically, and pressing any button would then boot normally?

That unofficial offline 1.3 which has an option to let youc onfigure how you want to boot your themehax. Option 0 = default = holding L, option 1 = button A then touch bottom screen = autoboot.

This guide is awesome, have used it 3-4 times for installs and works a treat

Do what I did. Use old release for data suite to install, then update the 3dsx

Does that work?
The main part of rxTools is not in the 3dsx though, it's in rxTools\sys\code.bin. Unless you update that file, you haven't actually updated rxTools. And I figured it would start the data initialization step again if I updated the files.
It works fine with 10.2 emuNAND, so I don't see much reason to update when the version I'm using works just fine.

No. There's a lot of options you can choose to make it boot. (Buttons pressed, buttons not pressed, etc...)

To just have it boot doing nothing, just press A, then tap bottom screen from the configuration option.

Yes, themehax is secondary hax, you need a primary hax to install it.

That's is for configurating autoboot. Auto boot = doing nothing after turn on the 3DS.

I -have- it installed. What I want is an autoboot option where I press the power button and it boots while I do nothing more.

You need to launch the themehax installer on HBL again. Look for configuate boot option (or similar term). In there, use option 1 by pressing button A, then touch bottom screen to set up auto boot.

i've set it up partially autoboot
I need to hold "L" (nand's are linked) then it boots into ctrbootmanager, if i don't do anything it autoboots rxTools or i can choose to boot rxTools, CakesCFW, Smea's original HBL or Mashers HBL with grid layout
and like @The Real Jdbye says, if your recent nightly works fine, why update? mine is still 02-10 release (10-02 for use date)

You can't say that. He could be trying to set up for the first time, using the latest nightly. Hint: It's currently broken on N3DS

It's not like he came up against an issue and needed someone to help troubleshooting. He sounds to me like he didn't try.

Read his whole message. There are 2 tutorials for New3DS in the tutorial section (1 more for O3DS). All are on the fist page of tutorial section. Both N3DS tutorials are detailed and straight forward.

First part is setting up browserhax then themehax, what so confusing about it? Why not ask?

Second part is creating EMUNAND. Since Skater browser can't be exploited to run Gateway launcher, Pasta CFW for ninjhax 2.x is used to install a CIa version of Cubic Ninja on SYSNAND to launcher GW launcher to create EMUNAND. At the same time inject FBI to SYSNAND before creating EMUNAND. Why not ask?

Rxtools file/folder placement is one of the last stage and very easy (all you just need the firmware bin on that site). If he tried and stuck there because broken build, it's easy if he asked and people point him to the October 02 build and that's it.

Point is there is no confusion as he said in the tutorial. As I said the tutorial is easy to follow. All he needs to do is following the tutorial and when he's stuck, just ask. He didn't even start looking for the tutorial.

It' not like in the past when there is no downgraded MSET so people want to downgrade firmware to use MSET exploit, 3DS with no browser, FBI injection into SYSNAND does not work for some 3DS, then 6.x MSET 4.x MSET downgrade available people want to update to 9.2 using Devmode...
