Was just thinking. What if TC's 3DS has a problem with the parallax barrier, like it's not activating when it should?
I was thinking that as well. Perhaps the OP can take the 3DS back to where they bought it and get it exchanged? Or find a place like bestbuy where they have one on display, to try and rule out the 3DS or the person.

Highly unlikely. He said he had the same problem on his o3ds and his n3ds. Having the same extremely rare problem on two systems ? He'd have higher chances of winning the lottery :P

The thing is the 3D setting varies a lot from one person to another.

For example, some games have "softer" 3D, as in they don't force my eyes much, like Mario Kart and Star Fox. I can view the effect perfectly fine.

Others have some "harsh" 3D effect, like Monster Hunter and Kid Icarus. It's really near impossible for me to keep the image focused for long, even with the 3D slider set to a minimum.

Plus it's easier to view the effect on the smaller O3DS.

The 3D works for me, I just don't like it. It gives me a headache after a while and hits the performance hard on some games. I'd rather have smoother gameplay than fancy 3D.

Baarrgh what a load of crap. So the 3d just doesn't work for me as a person :S
Yea 3BS for sure

Sort of, yes. Either you have been really unlucky and bought two defective 3DS's w/ screwed up displays or something is off about your vision from the common persons.

I personally am practically blind w/o corrective lenses, and even w/ lenses my right eye's resolving power is pretty poor due to an eye injury... And yet the 3D effect works quite well for me. LoZ: OoT had some ghosting (dual images) in extreme close ups and w/ the 3D set at max for me, but I can't currently think of another title that gave me the problems you have. And no title has ever gotten "blurry" because I had the 3D on... Ever. Something is wrong in your situation.

At least that is my take. Sorry.

Need some better eyes for the ultra-crisp high-res 240p screen.
3D on 3DS is BS. Wish they had gone with a better screen than some stupid gimmick.
They did improve the screen resolution for the 3ds, but just barley.

DS Line: Top Screen 256x192
3DS Line: Top Screen 400x240

Really hope their next handheld line has at least a 480p top display.

It could also be because your top screen is dirty. I think the 3D looks like total blurry shit when my top screen is dirty.

I can't remember where I've read this, but there was a small percentage of people who won't be able to see the Nintendo 3DS's 3D effect. Another explanation for why you can't see the effect properly is that some game has this "ghosting" effect where you see a duplicate image on the screen. However, I don't think this affects the games you mentioned.

If you have glasses or anything wrong with your eyes the 3D won't work for you. 20/20 vision only please.

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or if you're serious, but you don't need 20/20 vision to see 3D. You need to be able to determine retinal disparity to see the 3D effect on the 3DS. What this means is that your brain has to be able to interpret 2 slightly different image and determine depth base on how much difference there is between the images.

I agree to an extent, 3d is useless on fast action games.

BUT, the n3ds has gotten me to like 3d more, since it could actually track my eyes, so the double/blurry image problem has been no more for me. :)
3D is fantastic on Kid Icarus Uprising, a fast action game. And it's tracking your face, not necessarily your eyes. It looks for a pair of eyes, nose, mouth, and adjusts the screen based on that.

If you have glasses or anything wrong with your eyes the 3D won't work for you. 20/20 vision only please.
I wear Napoleon Dynamite glasses (I dunno what to call it, but it's shaped like an aviator/Rayban, really large), my face is shiny af, but N3DSXL super stable 3D works perfectly well for me, except in bright, sunny areas where there's lots of glare everywhere (glare from my glasses, glare on the camera glass, etc). It can even keep tracking with some obstruction to your face. And I sincerely doubt my vision is still 20/20, otherwise I wouldn't need these glasses at all. And I saw 3D perfectly fine with my OG Cosmo Black 3DS too. Even went and converted a LOT of 3D movies for it (the 3D effects for most of them were subtle at best though).

The way I see it, is that there's far too many people who see 3D just fine. If you can't see 3D just fine, then it's probably a matter of incompatibility between your eyesight (location, alignment, acuity, etc) and the technology used. Some 3D tech might work for your eyes, but unfortunately on the 3DS it doesn't.

Just turn the 3D off. Save some energy.

Baarrgh what a load of crap. So the 3d just doesn't work for me as a person :S

Saltiness is a natural reaction to the feeling of being deprived of something. Them's the breaks, TC.

Well I don't have glasses, I have one "lazy eye" though, which has some reduced eye sight.

Anyway, I never thought of the distance etc.. because I thought this tech of 2015 shouldn't be so lame that it didn't work if you don't move in a PERFECT position.

Well, I moved around a little going back and forth. and I found a "sweet spot" that is INCREDIBLY small , and it's not always 100% perfect even sometimes like 90% -and small ghostings.

So atleast the ghosting double images is gone now in tales of the abyss.
I haven't met any real 3D effects yet, other then the text boxes seeming to pop out a bit more.
But I like the increase brightness lmao best feature of 3d..? xD

Anyways my eyes don't seem to have much issue with it, atleast with this game.

But if I move again or whatever it is lost, and that's really annoying.
I have to hold up the 3ds with my hands .. for most/perfect experience, and that gets tiring and get cramps. if I put against my chest/belly often it doesn't work as well.

I am amazed they actually produced such an infant technology for mainstream. hearing also as many games don't use it.

This doesn't make any sense. Are you seeing the double images when you first turn on the system in sysnand? Or is the 3D going kaput only after loading emunand?

If it's screwed up only in emunand, you have to put the system in standby. Close the top screen and then open it again.

If it's screwed up in sysnand then try calibrating the 3D effect in system settings.

After calibrating if it's still screwed up then ask someone else to look at the screen.

If it's STILL screwed up then your 3DS is wonky, else it's your eyes.

But I have no idea what he means with "blurry". All 3D does is duplicate the images, not apply any kind of filter.
Maybe the depth illusion glitches his brain and he loses the focus? Or perhaps it's just the lazy eye?

But really, 3D is bullshit indeed. It's a useless effect that has a heavy impact on performance.
Look for example at One Piece Unlimited World Red. The game has no 3D and the graphics are awesome, way above the average 3DS game.
I bet Mario Kart 7 and even Sm4sh would be way better without it.
