The ELF loader doesn't change anything or let you access anything you couldn't before, it just makes writing homebrew more convenient. Emulators were always possible with the browser exploit, and they're easier to write now. None of the other things you mention are enabled by the ELF loader.

Well, I hope that a simplified method will be done, like an ELF loader, which I assume Fix94 is working on :P

ELF loading really isn't anything new. Weren't any of you around back when the Wii hacking scene kicked off?

That said, it's very nice to see progress like this.

Well, yeah, I know that, but we haven't been explicitly told on what limits there are to said homebrew on the Wii U. Does this mean that emulators can be ported over now? USB loading? Region lock removal? Firmware spoofing? Details, details.
It does not allow any of this in and of itself, but once other exploits are made available it will make it easier to develop homebrew that utilizes it. For example, suppose some stable IOSU and kernel exploits are developed, as well as a method to get the information necessary to install titles to your home screen. At that point, it might be desirable to have something like a "Homebrew channel." The homebrew channel itself could be an ELF file, as well as all the emulators you are presumably familiar with from Wii hacking. So once all these other puzzle pieces are in place, basically there will be a way to launch ELF files so developers can make/port emulators and other homebrew apps more easily.

But as I said before, it's not particularly useful right now, especially for non-devs. It's just something that needed to be done eventually and will help out later on once some other things are complete.

What is your definition of "good use"?

good use , be creative with the hardware we have , for media and such , enable wii games with controls . etc linux , a persistant hack (eventually) . SDK's that lead to homebrew games , i dunno , i just hear the same old crap every console , game hacks , emulators , backup loaders . There is no point in these.

I have a cool idea for a homebrew game but I'm only just learning how to program. I know that libwiiu is where the code is to start making homebrew for the Wii U but I don't know how to use it. Can you tell which programming language(s) to use with it? I'll just google the rest from there.

I should probs make better documentation some time. Mostly just C, but you're not going to get very far with a beginner's experience since graphics documentation that isn't from the SDK is basically nonexistant, so you'd need to make it up as you go along. I've been meaning to start, but when I heard FIX was working on a thing I decided to wait to poke around. I'll just throw my idea out there then since it'd only really work with the gamepad. My idea was a first person pong game where the gamepad would have a white line while on the TV screen you would see the opponent's line and the ball going back and forth. Game play would work with the player physically moving the gamepad up and down to reflect the ball. Yes maybe you could just do the same thing with a Wiimote but with the gamepad you could add the possibility of power ups (or downs) that would hinder the player or opponent like cutting the line in half on the gamepad screen so your gamepad wouldn't be able to reflect the ball if not align correctly. If anyone wants to make this just do it. I don't really care. I just want some fun homebrew on my Wii U.

I don't know if I should be happy or sad about this. I know this exploit was extremely unstable on 5.3.2. Is it more or less stable on 5.4.0?

We've done some timing fixes and gotten it to be more reliable, though it's not the 100% success rate of the other one. The fixes should give the same effect on both versions. As for the 5.4.0 browser exploit, it will maybe be released if it got patched too.

You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)

I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
