so now that I can load ELF files I guess I need to somehow write a sample on how to do it huh, that might take me yet another day.
Awesome! From USB? Or do we need to bake the ELF into the userspace exploit payload?

I have a question: If Youtube is the way in, how can we keep Wii U's from updating? For me personally, my Modem/Router combo is unable to block IP addresses...
There is no youtube on the way...

Sorry dude.

I load it off the http link you enter by building a new path from it to lead to a boot.elf, also right now its unusable and I'm not too sure if its the MEM1, it does load the code and the data just fine but executing things from that new position is no good, except if I write just a simple "Hello world" as a first line of course :P

Very cool. Yeah, maybe it's not mem1 and you're hitting limit of available memory... I'm sure you'll figure it out. Do you know how to check if it's mem1? I don't know the answer, just asking :)

Shouldn't matter, as long as you copy the code into 0x01800000 (JIT) and jump to it, it should work fine. Gotta use ROP tho :P
Dunno how FIX's test gave so little memory though :\ should be a way to flush it all out after gaining control (and to restart we can always just exit back out to the home menu).

Does anyone intent to make good use of this work , or are we set for hacks n cheats and not much more ?

cant seem to get my head around the whole point of any of this really , i followed your work since the start , and athlough very impressive im not too sure where it is leading . is the end game for you guys , game modding ? whats your reason for progressing ?

Uh, it will load ELFs, a common and convenient executable format for writing homebrew.

Well, yeah, I know that, but we haven't been explicitly told on what limits there are to said homebrew on the Wii U. Does this mean that emulators can be ported over now? USB loading? Region lock removal? Firmware spoofing? Details, details.

The ELF loader doesn't change anything or let you access anything you couldn't before, it just makes writing homebrew more convenient. Emulators were always possible with the browser exploit, and they're easier to write now. None of the other things you mention are enabled by the ELF loader.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

i think only the red mario kart edition phat was v5
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
