Just tried Advance Wars and it works!! Thanks so much for this, finally a way to play GBA games on the 3DS!

Quick question about the footer file, can I just create one using the default settings of the program and then just apply it to all the GBA roms? I really don't know how to customize all of the settings for each of the GBA roms, such as the save type and save chip manufacturer. I just opened the program, clicked on create using the default settings, and then applied it to advance wars and it seems to be working 100% right now (haven't tried saving yet though).

Another cool side effect is that my 3DS downloaded a system update while in sleep mode (I left the wifi on accidentally) but never installed it, so every time I turned on my 3DS after powering it off, I'd get a message asking me if I wanted to install the system update. It wasn't really a big deal but it was kind of annoying having to decline every time I turned on my system, not to mention the risk of accidentally updating it. By replacing my 0004013800000202 file with the patched one, it seems like the downloaded system update is gone now and my system is no longer asking me to update! Not sure what happened but I don't mind haha.

edit: just saw your post pokemoner, I'll try saving in Advance Wars and seeing if it works for me.

Try saving since I did the same exact thing and I can't save!

Ah yeah, my Advance Wars won't save either :hateit:

hopefully it can be resolved by just messing around with the footer file some more.

Wow this is impressive!

Question to those who tried it:
Is it usable after the patched AGB and a .cia of a gba rom are installed in sysnand? I mean after a hardreboot, no pasta mode?

Yoshi's Island - Super Mario Advance 3 (official GBA Ambassador release) uses Eeprom v122 - 64 kbit in the real GBA cart. But Advance Wars uses Flash v121 - 512 kbit.

Source: ADVA**scEne (not sure if I can link to it because of piracy bla bla)

Heh, I told you guys AGB_FIRM had sig checks. I've messed with this for a while and while it's accurate it's a bit of a pain to work with. Plus no Pokemanz, because it legitimately doesn't have 128KB save support at all, so Fire Red will fail to save and Emerald and Ruby will white screen. Mother 3 works though, I'm about halfway through that one.
But what's this, then?

Amazing stuff! I'd love to try this out, but just in case: By "Old3DS" do you also mean "It works on XL"? Also, what about the 2DS?

Try this!

Hmm I'm just getting the 'an error occurred, power off your system' message with this footer file. Did this footer file work for you?

Also a cool site I found for save types: http://offlinelistgba.free.fr/index.php

As another user already mentioned, Advance Wars is indeed flash

edit: I got Advance Wars to save pokemoner! If your footer file works for you then awesome, maybe I just installed it incorrectly or something. But if you can't get it to save let me know and I'll send you my settings for the footer file

Riku - Suggestion for the Converter - a simple "cia generated successfully" message would be awesome, after the generation is done. Other than that, great work.

I was able to make a pokemon emerald cia just fine and it saves and just fine using the flash option. When I restart the system and load the game (after booting pasta) it says the save is corrupted but still loads fine. Also the rom size is 16 MB which is 128 mbit. I just got though the intro when I did my save. Maybe I'll test it out some more tomorrow.

What I ran showed this after patching
"File patched successfully."

It's not quite "cia generated successfully", but good enough for gov. work.

nevermind, your probably talking about the gba converter.

this is not Neogaf dude, please.

That's it running. They never said it can't run, it can't save. Unless you're fond of running through the game in one launch with it potentially crashing if you manage to hit the Hall of Fame it won't do you much good.

(And do recall this is AGB_FIRM, so savestates are completely out of the question.)
