Working y/n: Yes, with original Gateway save and original 4GB Nintendo SD card in n3ds (works everytime, without having to wait before pressing A).​

Tried 16GB Kingston SD card in n3ds but I can never enter Gateway mode when pressing A, no matter how many times I try / whether I wait before pressing A or not.​

Thanks to Count Duckula's post, I got head tracking to work in Gateway mode by closing and then re-opening the 3DS' cover (didn't work otherwise).​

​

Also, when launching a second game from within Gateway mode ( = after closing the first), sometimes I get 'the cartridge was removed' error message a few minutes within the game. This doesn't happen when launching the first game, ie. immediately after entering Gateway mode.​

The gateway menu launches when pressing A EVERY SINGLE TIME I TRY. However, I cant get emunand/GW mode to work on my console. It breaks the 3ds but I don't get the rom selection menu. and Ideas?
Also I forgot to mention my card has the e manual option. So I have no Idea what to do, should I dump my rom and upload it to the internet or what?

I can confirm that this Japanese cart batch works perfectly on 8.1.0-0J, meaning it boots the Gateway menu every time I try as well (and thus have updated my post on the first page). I'm still waiting on the NAND to finish dumping before I can do anything else though. NAND dump done, but like the above poster, the ROM menu does not work in Gateway mode. Pressing select does nothing. I'll try making an emuNAND and seeing how that goes.

I got it all working,
I basically backed up my sysnand, formatted emunand and made a folder so that I know Im in emunand.
I unlinked my sysnand from emunand by formatting the console without an sd card, booted into gateway
mode and into the emunand I had set up earlier (folder was there after system format) (after making sure
that I was in emunand, I updated my console to the latest FW, and the rom menu and every other region game works just fine!

I hope they fix it in the next release; I'm interested in installing the flashcard timewarp so I can use my blue card on my N3DS (installing it on emunand is useless). Thanks for the tip though.

Seems that Japanese cartridges have good compatibility with all three major versions (8.1.0-0J and 9.1.0-20J are factory preinstalled versions, 9.2.0-20J is obtained via online update).

nvm, was the sd card bug....working fine.....but not enough room to download my mh4u back onto sd card. zzz..... _@ need to get an 8gb...

I have two cards for checking. The old one is version 1.0 (compared with scene dump) and works with the patched save. The new one is version 1.1 (also compared with scene dump) and works with the original save from gateway.

Also just looked at the new manual from Gateway and you can read that they know the problems with the saves:
