...why do people expect hackers to "do a GeoHot" every single time and put themselves legally in harm's way? He's not someone from a backwater village in China where nobody cares, he's French and could get into real trouble if he were to release an exploit under his name.

I can fully understand his concern about whether or not this would lead to piracy because he would be the one facing consequences, not a sea of leeches who just want to play ROM's on their devices. You have a method of launching ROM's which will soon be capable of also running Homebrew - the Gateway. Now stop moaning.

Again, good job Smealum - you're quite the inspiration these days, a lot of good projects coming from under your fingers.

B... But reading smea's blog, he wrote that he tried some reverse-engineering, and managed to run unsigned code with DS savegames exploits on a NDS and 3DS but DS-Mode. And he's right, it's a very interesting learning exercise.
So "he hacked the 3DS" seems a little bit exagerated. Maybe one day, but hey.

Anyway, is blog is very interesting. Whatever you are doing, keep doing it in a brillant way

From what I'm seeing on the incredibly blurry photo (damn it smealum! ) it looks like a bitmap, not a system font, which means raster graphics can be displayed. It's not a message returned from the system itself using the system's font - even if it is a font, it is external so clearly you can execute code and load external content to some extent. tl;dr probably yes, depending on the nature of the exploit itself, where the code is executed from, how much memory is available, what's the degree of access etc.
