After reading about this on a lot of gaming sites, and seeing the comments on the Ubisoft Facebook page, it seems a lot of people are unhappy with the way Rayman Legends has been delayed. It's difficult to tell if the only people posting about it are the unhappy people and some people just aren't bothered.

My personal point of view is that you just don't do this when there is less than a month to go before a game's release. The way Ubisoft went about things really seems like they're saying they don't need my business and I can take it elsewhere for all they care. I have no interest in the game myself, but my kids love the demo and I promised them I'd get them it when it comes out. I had a £35 Amazon gift code ready to place my pre-order with, and they kept asking me "is it out soon?".

I'll download the second demo, to appease the kids, but I don't think I'll buy the game right away when it's launched. By the time it comes out, the kids will have probably forgotten about it, so I doubt I'll buy it. If I do, I'll get it pre-owned or from a bargain bin when it's struggling to sell against Wind Waker HD and any other big titles due out later this year.

The online petition set up has already reached its original goal of 7,500+, in a bid to get Ubisoft to change their minds and release the game earlier as intended on the Wii U. I have my doubts that it will make any difference, though.

Hasn't this already been discussed in the USN thread?

Oh, by the way guys, Ubisoft is sending a peace offering your way.
It was discussed in the USN as a general news thread, but I can't add a poll to that. It's a matter of my own interests; I just wanted to get an overall consensus of opinion on the matter, really.

From what I read on Ubisoft's Facebook page, virtually nobody was appeased by the offering of the second demo.

Here's the thing:

If you don't buy the game, you're showing Ubisoft that they can give up on the WiiU.
If you cancel pre-orders, you're showing them they can give up on the console.
If you buy used,
if you don't buy anymore Ubisoft games.

The best course of action to take right now, is to write them letters or email them. A petition won't do anything. It can't. Otherwise Ubisoft risks the chance of it not being released on the 360 at all. And as a business, they don't want that. It was dumb of Ubisoft to make it non-exclusive, but now that they have, the only course of action they take is if they cancel the 360 version all together, which they'll never do.

I don't agree that, by not buying the game, people are showing Ubisoft that they can give up on the Wii U. They're showing them that you can't really mess with your customers like this. And hitting them where it hurts is always going to be more effective than writing them an ignored letter or signing an ignored petition. I think they could safely attribute poor Wii U sales to the fact that they pissed off a lot of their customers by not buying the game and letting them know why we aren't buying the game.

Developers shouldn't cave in to ridiculous demands from Microsoft's terms and conditions. At the end of the day, the game was never intended to be released on the 360 in the first place, and is only coming now in response to the fans. How would those fans feel if the reason they didn't get the game was actually because Microsoft turned the game down for licensing because it was released on another platform first? Simply tell those fans that it's not coming to their console because the manufacturer doesn't allow games that were previously timed exclusives for other hardware, and let them kick up the fuss with Microsoft. I'm not even convinced that Ubisoft are afraid of Microsoft's licensing terms, since the world's biggest publishers know exactly how much power they have over Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.

I'm buying it because I want to support good developers who make excellent games.

That and the fact I'm a reasonable chap who keeps control of his emotions.
That's fair enough, though I'm fully in control of my emotions. I just have strong ideals that companies need to earn my business by remaining respectful, keeping their promises and providing excellent after sales care. I don't buy Sony stuff, since I feel their relationship with customers leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not angry, though perhaps a little disappointed on behalf of my kids but, like I said before, I just don't think Ubisoft deserve my business.

Dude, by not buying the game, you're going to let Ubisoft say "Eh, fuck it, our games aren't selling on the WiiU, let's stick with Sony and Microsoft.

You do realize Ubisoft is a company that wants money. They want to get as much money as possible. By not releasing it on 360, that won't get them as much money as they could. Yeah they could pressure Microsoft, but at the end of the day, it's still Microsoft's decision to punish the developer or not.

It's blatantly obvious to anyone that this is all about money. But that doesn't mean people should be doormats for companies to walk all over just because they make a few decent products (I like Prince of Persia games :P). I personally would not care if no more Ubisoft games came to the Wii U, but perhaps that's just me. It's not just the consumers they're treating badly, it's the overworked developers too.

What else can I say, other than it just doesn't sit right with me?

Developers have been doing it for years, and not just in the game industry. It's how the world works sadly.

It's a delay, it happens.

Imagine being a Duke Nukem fan. Waiting for 14 years for the next true Duke Nukem. You wait patiently, and after 14 long years, you get this half-baked, bad product known as Duke Nukem Forever.

Rayman Legends, people bitch about a 6-7 month delay for a game that will probably be good. Do I think the delay for the Wii U version is a bit scummy? Slightly, but I understand their reasoning. If the game does tank (which is a possibility on a system with a small userbase), they'll be in the hole for 7 months until the next versions that could redeem it are out.

Personally, this increases the chance of me buying the game 100% since it's on the Xbox 360.

And on a side note I think it's really fucking low to say you won't buy the game because of this. Man the fuck up. Games get delayed. All your doing by not buying the game is spiting good developers and sending the message that you're so buttmad over something as small as a fucking delay that you won't give Ubisoft money to continue making good games. All this does is hurt the developers and hurt a franchise of excellent games. Considering how risky Ubisoft is playing it, releasing a full-retail platformer that isn't carrying a big brand like Mario, we should support them, especially in an industry not known for risks.

Not to mention that having the Wii U version launch now and the rest launch in the summer means that they would have to pay for two marketing campaigns. Those things don't come cheap, and Ubisoft understandably wants to keep costs down. I mean, we're only getting a sequel because the first game managed to be profitable even with completely lackluster sales.

How was it a dumb decision? Release the game on multiple platforms with larger userbases? Considering Origins was on the PS3 and 360 and I doubt a ton of people would be converting to the Wii U simply for this game, that leaves a large alienated userbase on being Wii U exclusive.

Considering that the first game didn't do bonkers on the Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Vita, and 3DS, it's fair to say that the sequel on one platform would have done a lot worse.

Was planning on getting it on release, now I'll put it on hold since it's multiplat. Not paying full price for it any longer. They just couldn't let it be a WiiU exclusive for a few months atleast. They just HAD to delay it to be able to release it to all systems at same time.

Not buying something based on respect is an emotional response.

Just a disclaimer now: I feel like this post is going to turn into a battle on semantics of gargantuan proportions if someone replies to it, so I'll just say in advance that I don't intend to reply back if that happens. Really just not that bothered if someone disagrees.

Dumb in the way they handled everything.

Yes the delay affected my decision on purchasing the game. Only because I've had enough time to change my mind about purchasing the title. I was planning on getting it for launch, but after trying the downloadable demo I'm just no longer interested in the game.

I can handle delays. Hell, I've been waiting for Fire Emblem for the 3DS for a lot longer than most people have been waiting for Rayman Legends, even though Iwata said it would be coming to Europe in 2012. Ubisoft waited until the release was imminent, got thousands of fans excited to be playing the game and then delayed the game, even though the game is just sitting there ready to go. The made the choice of disappointing a lot of people instead of keeping a promise. If you want to buy the game still and show them that it's fine to treat consumers that way, then that's your choice. Like I said before, I'm not at all buttmad about it, it's just a matter of principle for me.

If you don't buy the game out of some boycott, it's really the developers who are getting screwed. So, you know, maybe don't do that? Just maybe?
How so? The developers have already been paid for their work, or do you think they work for free until the money starts coming in from the game? It's the publisher taking the risk, and it's the publisher that's fucked up in this instance. Even the developers are pissed off about it, because of all the overtime they were made to put in just so the game could be released this month. So, yes, I feel sorry for the developer, but I'm not about to pity-purchase the game just because of that, and anybody who does is a moron.

Not buying something based on respect is an emotional response.
It seems more of a logical response to me. Business disrespects loyal consumer, consumer doesn't buy product, business learns lesson and improves strategy, all customers benefit in the future. Logic.
That being said, I'd be lying if there weren't an ounce of emotion in the way I feel. I was watching my son play the Legends demo yesterday and he was giggling his head off. The made me feel a little disappointed that he wouldn't get the game for a while. If I let my emotions rule me, then I would buy the game anyway on the new release date just for that. Again, it's a matter of principle.
