Hacking Gamecube to Classic Controller Converter 2 questions

Great work! This project is really turning out well. Any guesstimate on when these will be available for sale, and about how much they will cost? I'd love to be able to play Project M on the Wii U using a GC controller, with pressure-sensitive L & R button support.
 
What are the dimensions of the PCB? I'd love to buy one with just the Wii cable, as I want to put this inside the controller itself.
 
Here's the problem, say I map - to DPad up + Start. Now you press DPad up + Start. You haven't just pressed -, you've actually pressed +, -, and DPad up all at the same time, and I can only assume that this will produce unwanted results as often as not. By choosing the GC controller, you've lost 3 buttons, and there is no way to 100% compensate for that. I'm open to suggestions, as well as my offer for per-order custom mappings, but right now my default option is going to be direct 1:1 mappings only.
Oh well, don't know why I thought that combo's hold input would freeze the closing command (e.g. thought it would lock the "+" mapped on "start")

Then yes, 1:1 is the way to go to have at least a very good compatibility with Devolution

Does Project M support Classic Controller's analog trigger output? :blink:

Still waiting on nunchucks. They should be here within the next week or two. I've posted price several times, but just to reiterate, $25 each plus shipping.

So nunchuck cable will work with the PCB? If so, I'll take one now, as I have a spare nunchuck cable. I have opened my Gamecube Controller, and if I place the PCB inside one of the handles of the Gamecube controller, it will appear as though I have a Gamecube controller that will plug into a wiimote.
 
In the future, I may re-spin the board for internal mods (in fact, that was my original intent, but it became apparent people preferred the cables), I can definitely shrink the board down quite a bit, especially if I target it for a single controller, like I did for the SNES. But yes, it will work, and it works with nunchuck cables. In fact, 3rd-party nunchucks are the cheapest source of black cables I've found anywhere. You can get white extension cables for cheaper, but they don't make extension cables in black, and for the aesthetics of this project, I wanted black cables...

The adapter looks awesome indeed. There is plenty of this stuff made by big manufacturers (BigBen, Atomic...) that looks just TERRIBLE when compared to your converter. I'll love too see how'd it look with a black GCC - black Wiimote combo

Even better, I'm pretty sure the GC cables that I ordered in quantity are black, unlike the purple one I have here. I also have a black Wiimote and black GC controller, so I'll be sure to post pics as soon as I have one fully assembled...

Looks like the cables will arrive in the next day or two, and that's all I'm waiting on at this point. I have a lot of free time today, so I'll probably assemble a bunch of the boards today. I only have 10 of them claimed, so they're basically open to anyone who wants one.

Ohhhh man, I LOVE my new soldering station. I managed to solder 20 boards in just over an hour. I may eventually look into building a reflow oven, but for now, this is sweeeet :)

Ok, there's one more software bug I'd like to squash before I'm willing to sell these, which I didn't notice until I pulled out my breadboarded WRA again to test. If you unplug the GC controller from the WRA while the WRA is still plugged in to the Wiimote (or if you plug in the WRA to the Wiimote before plugging in the GC controller), it locks up the Wiimote. Basically, the GC read function is locking up when there's no GC controller plugged in, which is no good. I'm also going to do some heavy testing of the analog sticks to be sure the analog ranges match up to the actual CC controllers. Home stretch, guys :)

Well, certainly not "mass market" seeing as I'm building each and every one by hand, but I'm happy to keep selling them as long as people buy them, so long as I can keep up. Right now I have parts for, at most, 25 of them. If I manage to sell them, I'll make more. It would really be nice to sell 60 of them so I can order a new PCB revision to fix some of the annoying oversights in the original PCB run (doesn't affect functionality, just stupid mistakes).
 
just wanted to mention something about the original post here, I don't think it'll be possible to play GC games on the U although the appropriate mIOS could be installed to play them.

Reason being that GC mode will not work simultaneously with wii mode, because of this there will be no controller inputs. Since the U has no ports for GC controllers the games will be unplayable as GC games do not respond too any wii controllers...

since there hasn't been a hack to change this on the original wii i don't think its likely one will be released now unfortunately :(

This project started just because they're working on Wiimote support for Devolution right now.

And of course there will be controller inputs, Wii ones.
 
I just talked to tueidj about CC support in Devolution, and although he said it "won't be released for a while", he has made a decision on button mapping that will affect how I do the mapping for these adapters. Here's how the CC buttons are being mapped in Devolution:
CC GC
Y->B
B->A
A->X
X->Y

This mapping makes sense if you're using a CC to play GC games. So, in the interest of Devolution support, this is most likely how I'll be mapping my adapters. The ideal solution would be to support both this mapping and the default A->A, B->B, etc. mapping and switch between mappings by holding a button while plugging in the controller, the way the raphnet N64 adapters work. We'll see...

Edit: Even better, there might be a way to have software (i.e. Devolution) dynamically remap the buttons at will, which would be awesome. This does mean that it might take longer for me to have these adapters available as I try to add this, but I have a feeling that it will be worthwhile.
