I don't know much other than it sounds like YouTube will be reviewing videos. In other words you upload a video, and it could take a few days before videos get posted. If YouTube sees something they don't like, your video doesn't get posted.

An interesting move both from a legal and a technical standpoint if so.

Alas last night I was subject to one of the worst let's plays I have ever seen so knowing I am unlikely to be especially charitable right now I will leave it for the time being.

Is there a lot of porn ending up on youtube these days?

As for "free country"....

Google's site
Google's storage
Google's bandwidth
Quite possibly Google's neck on the line at some level

Mandatory in the absolute sense. Sure.

Depending upon what you want to do there is nothing in the English speaking world that is competitive with what google costs, what google pays and what google offers its users.

There's supposedly a lot of porn, mostly softcore, that's uploaded to Youtube all the time.

But really I think this would be more about people uploading content that doesn't belong to them (ie songs, movies, TV shows) than anything else. LPers should be fine, as their content falls under the category of "fair use" (as, IIRC, commentary/reviews are both considered fair use)

I really hope this doesn't happen. This is Censorship, and since Google/Youtube is based in the United States, this violates the first amendment. The Only reason Apple gets away with it is that a LOT less applications submitted to the AppShop rather than youtube. You have the right to voice your opinion and choices. I've already stopped using gmail, and google search, but is there any good alternate to youtube? If not I will be hosting my own content via HTTP/FTP the my own server.

Wonder if this will end up in what is the definition of porn debate.

Now my knowledge of constitutional law leaves a bit to be desired but as I understand it the first amendment/bill of rights is between the government and people under the remit of US law (citizens, visitors....). As google is not the government....

This makes me afraid because while they can't go through each and every video they have on their servers (because of time), they may focus on certain accounts when they find a video being uploaded, and then examine/remove existing videos that also correlate to this change in policy.

The Bill of Rights are the first ten amendments. And they are a promise to the people. England was dictating to the colonies what they could and could not do and so we revolted and formed our own government. And we created the Bill of Rights so no one could ever take them from us. And Google responds to the government, as does any United States business.

And if Google hired someone to follow you around and prevent you from exercising those rights they would rightly have the book thrown at them, it says nothing about having to provide a platform for it to happen on.

I don't think people can quote the first amendment when it comes to this sort of thing. Right to say whatever you want and voice whatever opinion you have (for the most part)? Sure. Right to video yourself doing so, then upload it on a commercial business' website? I don't know about that. Maybe if Google was checking every new website ever made and taking down the ones they deem inappropriate, sure. But Youtube is their company, it's their servers, etc.

Edit: damnit. Pretty much ninja'd by Fast.
