Images of what are supposedly a factory prototype for the Nintendo Switch 2 alongside a spec sheet have appeared on a Chinese forum.

The renders show the device from all angles and even comparison shots with the original Switch are included. The most notable changes are the large 8 inch screen and two USB Type-C ports on the top and bottom of the device.

Referred to as the "Switch second generation model STP" and "SWITCH2 model STP", the device appears to feature a familiar overall design and detachable joycons but without traditional rails as seen on the originals - perhaps confirming the use of a magnetic solution as per recent rumours?

A spec sheet has also surfaced which appears to detail the above device including hardware IDs. It is said that the device has 12GB of LPDDR5X, 7500 MT/s RAM and 256GB of storage as well as support for HDMI 2.1.

• Microphone: Model CMB-MIC-X7.
• Cooling Fans: Models BSM0405HPJH9 and BSM0505HPJQC, with copper heat sinks.
• Video Signal Conversion: Realtek RTD2175N chip, supporting HDMI 2.1.
• Network Chip: Realtek RTL8153B-VB-CG for gigabit Ethernet.
• Microcontroller: STMicroelectronics STM32GOBOCET6.

These specifications even seem to match up to a previous leak via Famiboards who tracked shipment and customs data between Nintendo, NVIDIA and others to interpret part details sometime ago.

What do you think? Real? Or Switch clone or other copycat device from China or simply an elaborate hoax?

Saw this right before the post here. If this is real, I'm really intrigued - Nintendo would be playing it a little safer this time around. Interesting "trigger" placement (edit: realizing in post that it's the detach button).
EDIT: And yeah, this could use some more storage. 256GB is an upgrade, but it's still probably going to run out fast.

256GB is eight times as much as the Switch. Sounds pretty good to me, but then I'm not used to stuff like Call of Duty taking 300 gigabytes or whatever insanity is normal these days.

In fact, it's such an increase that it doesn't sound realistic to me. Among other things like ditching the joycon rails (why?) I'm calling this a hoax. It looks like someone's idea of a safe guess.

It's still not a lot. The largest Switch games are 32GB, a ton of them are 16GB, and Switch 2 games will be even bigger. 256GB is enough to tide you over until you get an SD card but on its own it could use a few more gigs.

Don't forget that during the release of the Switch the norm of the amount of capacity was vastly different from now, price-wise as well. They will always try to keep the costs down, and if 256GB is within their price range it is perfectly believable they would go for it now.

256GB sounds concerning, but at least it's bigger then the 32GB/64GB the current Switches have. I hope it's 512GB at least (or a more expensive model with 512GB) But to be honest, my OLED is upgraded with a 1TB micro-SD, so even if it's 256GB, it wouldn't be a big deal. But the microphone is nice, that gives hope for potential (official) 3DS/DS emulation and maybe even some GameCube Mario Party action. Second USB-C is nice tho, larger screen is also a big W. I dig the bigger Joy-Con designs. It looks very streamlined and reminds me how the New 2DS XL, Switch Lite and Switch OLED are designed.
