2. Yes. Start HBL via Haxchi or web exploit, load WUPhax, press 'A', and Bob's your uncle.

When I press "A" the program starts to run then says "Failed to open Backup File" and closes.

Any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?

Thank you.

Is your SD card write protected? You pressed "A" not "B"? That's all I can think of.

It isn't write protected and I'm definitely pushing "A". I'm stumped. I am starting to think it is the SD Card though. It's a Mini-SD with a sleeve that you insert it to so it can be read by a standard SD Card Reader.
Can you recommend an SD Card, Type, Size, Brand?

Any name brand should be fine. Sandisk, PNY, Samsung. I would avoid 3rd party sellers like the plague. There are a ton of fake SD cards out there. I've heard that 32GB cards are the most compatible but I have two 64GB cards that work just fine (one SD, one Micro SD). You could try to reformat your SD card and ensure that the allocation size is 4k. However that was probably the default size anyways so I kind of doubt that's the issue. If nothing works you should wait until @FIX94 responds before determining that it's the SD card. I'm still unsure.

Here the card I use:

that error indeed means it failed to open that file on sd with write permission but it was able to mount it, so I guess either your FAT is broken (reformat probably fixes that) or there is some serious problem with the sd itself.

Hi,
I'm new here, but I have some problems with WUPHAX that I just installed on my Wii U. The installation went fine, the homebrew channel was installed and everything is working great.

But, there is something I can't fix and I'm asking you for help. When I installed WUPHAX, it injected itself into the Mii Channel of the vWii. It then created a backup file on the SD Card that could restore the channel to functioning form again. I was stupid enough to not realise this, and I formatted my SD-card (to have a clean card for further homebrew installation) and the file is now gone. I have tried using different Data Recovery software, but they have been unable to recover it.

Is there any way to obtain such a backup file from someone else? My Wii is PAL and as I've never used the vWii portion of the Wii U before, the Mii Channel was empty. If not, is there any way to download and install the Mii Channel again using NUS? I tried doing that as well, but an error was present while installing the WAD.

Thanks in advance!

Im also having trouble restoring my mii channel. Everything else installed fine, i have the wuphaxBackup.app file on my sd card, when i go into wuphax and press "b" it says everything went ok. Now when i go into vWII and into mii channel, it keeps loading the hackmii installer. Any ideas?

Hai everyone, I'm new here. So, everytime I run loadiine.ovh to run the homebrew exploit the Wii U symbols pops up and then immediately after I get an error called 'FSOpenFile failed.' I tried formatting my SD Card to Fat32, I'm just unsure what I could be doing wrong.

usually, it's FSMount error. you have FSOpen error? maybe something is wrong with your file, or the card is write protected?
Are you sure you extracted the correct files in the correct locations? (use the homebrew_launcher elf and not the rpx)

You could try formatting it with Panasonic SD Formater (it it's bigger than 32GB it will format to exFat, don't worry, reformat to FAT32 with your operating system). that's helping users with the "FSMount" error. maybe it could help you too.
you could also try wiiubru.com

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to do this on a second hand 8GB Europe Wii U I bought. (I don't know if a previous owned did anything before me).

1. I've installed Haxchi and Homebrew Launcher on the Wii U.
2. I've used wuphax to install the hackmii installer into the vWii Mii Channel.
3. I then load vWii and load the Mii Channel.
4. I get the Hackmii scam warning screen which takes its time until I see "Press 1 to continue"
5. I press one and it just won't work - it appears to be frozen - not even a long press of the power button recovers and I have to unplug.

The root of my SD card has the following "installer.log".

Things I have tried:

1. Ensured there are no USB devices connected.
2. Different sdcards
3. I've restored the Mii Channel and started over
4. I've let it sit there for 20 minutes
5. Repeated the process numerous times.
6. I've double checked I'm using a genuine wiimote.

EDIT: Apparently I hadn't tried enough sdcards - the fifth one I tried worked. :/

you are not really installing HB channel, but a way to launch the installer (hackmii installer).
Maybe there's a way to install wads to vWii from WiiU mode and install the opensource HBC wad.
then again, there's no way to boot into HBC directly and bypass the system menu, so what you want is not possible.

What's probably possible is fix your system menu, or its used IOS, from the WiiU mode.

Ok I'm lost. Does this install vWii? I want vWii. How do I get Wii on my Wii U?
This hacks your existing vWii. It doesn't install it. Unless your WiiU is a launch console that has never been online, you should have the Wii icon.

This will only work on a console that has been updated to 5.5.1

Couple of newbie questions. I autoboot into CBHC. Can I still use this on CBHC? I have a wii with a hdd with loads of back ups on. Can I use this?

EDIT
For the autoboot part I had to take the y cable totally out. I had tried it just taking the HDD from the cable and it would not work. r

So this is something I wrote today which may be helpful to people who dont have a required game to hack vwii.

UPDATE: this update is one month after the initial release of v1.0, this is much simpler to do now with v1.1!
Grab the current elf release from the releases tab.
Download the hackmii installer and put only the boot.elf from that zip on your sd card root.
Make sure to unplug any and all usb devices before following any of these steps.
Put the wuphax.elf into your wiiu/apps folder on your sd card and run it in homebrew launcher.
Press A to back up your current mii channel and inject it with wuphax.
After the wiiu restarted, go into wii mode and run mii channel, install homebrew channel from there.
To restore the mii channel just run the elf again and press B this time.
This is a great tutorial, except it's not restoring the Mii Channel. I pressed A to backup and install then went to vwii went to Mii Channel installed Homebrew pressed the home button and shut down my wiiu then I went to wiiu homebrew to restore the Mii Channel but it always brings me to the screen of installing Homebrew. Gets annoying when playing Wii Sports or Mii games and you can't save with guest Miis.
Note: after restoring Mii Channel I have restarted my Wii U safely and during this whole time I had my HDD and my USB out of the wiiu
