Voting for the Wood R4 firmware. It much nicer user interface, is easier to install (just download and copy to the flash card, no running batch files and other bullshit), much better compatibility (YSMenu has trouble with a lot of games, Wood runs everything I throw at it), and MUCH faster loading (YSMenu takes like 5 seconds on my original R4, Wood takes less than 1). It's really no contest.

I hate to say this, but you really no nothing about YSMenu.
You can get YSMenu compilers that do it for you.
Better compatibility because it is newer... and plus update extinfo on YSMenu and voila! Better compatibility.
Much faster? You make me laugh. Update your infolib, then see. For example, with updated infolib my YSMenu loads animal crossing in half a second (seriously) while wood take about 2-3 seconds.

Of course it's a contest.
the extinfo updates only come when Rudolph or somebody makes a patch... Wood actually has somebody updating it, weather theres a patch or not.
Wood R4 is better, I bet you have an R4 clone and dont wanna admit it so your bashing wood

Hm? Oh I wonder what THIS is?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me it's a regularly updated extinfo, infolib and savlib!

and no, I have a completely original R4.
For proof, the original Wood R4 worked perfectly for me.

Looks like your argument was seriously flawed.

Bekar go play these games on ysmenu....
and you said the reason you're not switching to wood r4 is because your iysmenu skin

for me wood r4 is better than ysmenu, it has a good interface, good conpatibility with new roms, can copy, paste, delete, cut files easy, but the decision is in each one, i like wood r4, can be a person that likes the ysmenu xD.

Lol I've got both YSMenu and Wood, and all games are working like a charm for either
happy.gif

and I've got my iYSMenu skin on both now, and I still keep both firmwares on one card.

No-ones arguments are really that solid

Wood R4 has better cheat compatibility

proof?

using floor modifier in PKM explorer's of sky doesnt work on YSMenu.

using it with Wood R4...... no problem

WoodR4 has in game enable/disable cheats --- YSmenu doesnt
Can you please tell the Wood R4 FAQ maintainer how to use this in-game enable/disable? Then it can be added, which would be helpful since I have no idea how this works and my guess is I'm not the only one. Wood R4 is lacking a manual for some of its features, not all features are obvious and this is surely one of them.

There you go.

There you go?? That sounds like you just provided the method of in-game enabling/disabling of cheats. But it's not in your reply and not in the FAQ. So what's "There you go" about? Or are you referring to how to start a topic about a Wood R4 manual? Thanks but I knew that. I think the FAQ is the best for now. Once all the facts are clear maybe that's a good point to start thinking about a manual. Not now.

QUOTE(Mantis41 @ Apr 21 2010, 08:46 PM) If you feel like contributing something strart writing a manual yourself.
I would love to contribute how to utilize in-game enable/disable cheats. Really. But I don't have any idea how that should be done. And since nobody responded how to do it, makes me suspicious that in reality it is not possible at all. So maybe my contribution should be that Wood R4 cannot enable/disable cheats while in the game. But it is a bit pointless to add to the FAQ everything Wood R4 can't do. It can't boil eggs either or make my bed.

QUOTE(Mantis41 @ Apr 21 2010, 08:46 PM)
Start a new topic, 'R4 wood - Manual'.
Ask to get it stickied.

As long as your contributing something the other tempers will be more than happy to help you fill in the blanks.
Thanks. Like I said I knew this but I hope it helps somebody else. For now I think it is enough to put our combined knowledge in the FAQ. If I find a new feature nobody found before I will do, I hope you will too.

So again, if somebody knows how to utilize in-game cheats enable/disable please share it. I cannot share that myself since I do not know how to utilize it. I hope you agree that sharing something which is not known is a bit of a problem.

For all I've read here and in many other topics, I've decided that YSmenu is still good to go, and that Wood still needs sometime and more development, users and new games to come (to check how fast it will adapt to new anti-piracy measures) to be called "The Better One".

Also, the fact that you can use YS on almost ANY flashcart (I say it because I have one of those R4s that are actually DSTT clones with a weird, hacked YSmenu) still gives it an advantage.

I tried wood out on a friend's original R4 flashcart and besides the looks, I don't really see any difference (not even the loading times)... Then again, It'd be good to try it on the long run to see how it works ^^!

Now Im just using Wood, but I'm seriously pissed that there's no quick update fixing the small bugs and issues (eg using .sav, 12h format, plus a load of things people have suggested). So I'm starting to wonder if it's really so great

I'm sad to say "I'm a loser who still uses the original R4 firmware", I haven't touched my DS in 2 years and I've just ordered a 2GB micro SD card for going away on saturday so I have a lot of catching up to do so I can be up to speed on the state of my R4DS

I plan on using WoodR4 just because I don't see the point of going to the extra hassle of finding everything I need for YSMenu firmware. From the looks of the features the WoodR4 firmware will suit me fine

Voted for Wood R4:[*]YSMenu was such a hassle for me to setup. Wood R4 was just like the original R4 firmware: just Drag and Drop.[*]With YSMenu some people (me included) needed to format their MicroSD card. Call me an idiot, but I actually didn't do that with my card cause I couldn't risk it.[*]Wood R4 has a better interface. I never liked the R4 interface. I never liked YSMenu's interface either since it was kinda the same as R4's one.Needless to say Wood R4 and YSMenu are both better than the original R4 1.18 firmware.

I am using Wood. It's able to play all the games that I had to patch to get to work with YSMenu. It also runs The Clone Wars - Jedi Alliance, which 1.18 and YSMenu which will make my nephew really happy.
