As far as i read, i cannot figure out why it's not recommended to update the Switch to latests system update.

I mean, SX OS will be available and work on every firmware right ? The FAQ says it will never be patched.

Other side, if i stay on 3.0.0, i will not be able to play backups that need a more recent update.
Also I do not have the SDXC update, so the manipulation to make it available, are very more complicated than a simple update.

What do i lost if i update ? As far as i know : coldboot ?
Does this mean i only need a jig and fusee gelee again to start my console ? Ok but Xecuter sell a dongle to do that, and it's seems not to be a big deal.
And if i'm not wrong, it's not needed when your switch is only in a sleep mode.
And (!) there is plenty of methods to make it easier : https://gbatemp.net/threads/the-ultimate-list-of-mods-to-enter-rcm.502145/

So i really want to know what are the pros of keeping a switch on old firmwares.

I'm a bit lost.

The only thing I know if is that if you go beyond 3.0.0 you will lose the easy way for a cold boot. However, that wil also be circumvented.

My personal opinion and bet: just update. YOU WILL NEED THE SDXC update anyways.

Ok...

Lower firmware (under 5.0.2 or any 5.x.x) = possible chance of homebrew/backup loading without using a jig/RCM/dongle. No method released yet.

Higher firmware - 5.x.x = jig required. No exploit currently released.

That's it.

If you aren't bothered about using a jig every coldboot then update. Bear in mind that you will be locked out of installing permanent firmware hacks for now. But you will always be able to get homebrew via jig.

I was on 3.0.2... it had no love from Hekate etc... Wanted to play with homebrew so I updated.

You cannot downgrade at this point. So you are not losing anything apart from maybe the ability to run homebrew without the jig.

Yes. Currently, the only known thing you will lose is coldboot.

Pros: More usable exploits.
Cons: You need to wait.

You can format your SD as fat32 and it will work just fine on any FW.
If you stay on 3.0.0, Atmosphere will have EmuNAND solution, so you can (hopefully one day) get coldboot on 3.0.0 but boot to latest FW.
Also, I think that Atmosphere will come with a software solution (reboot to atmosphere from a browser) so that you won't need to enter RCM (but only 1.0.0 - 4.0.1)??? (idk how deja vu/jamais vu work)

Only problem in your logic is that he still won't be able to use big carts.

Thanks all for your answers so, the short version is :
  • keep 3.0.0 or under :
    • pros
      • able to install a permanent software modification (in the future) to boot on
      • you may boot on other firmware from this modification, but no infos yet
    • cons
      • unable to play 3.0.0+ games
  • updating :
    • pros
      • all games available to play
      • easy way to get SDXC update
    • cons
      • have to use jig and loader once at every cold boot (but not in waking up from sleep mode)
Am i wrong somewere ?
So the perfect solution of have a "ready to boot" solution, which is able to load any FW of an higher version, do not exists yet. But it is at least planed ?

You will be able to play any game with Atmosphere because of emunand (no matter what fw you have).

Why do you all forget about autoRCM? True that it is new and people might be skeptical about how it might break their consoles, but when NAND backup/restore becomes easier then this should be the best option to boot, even better than a software exploit on <= 4.1.0.

So yeah everything OP said is true and you should just update it. Lower used to be better, not anymore though.

Because you still need something to push the payload (mod chip, dongle or pc). That's why nobody cares.
So the software solution is much better (if it boost you to Atmosphere or even to rcm)

Actually, june 15th was for FG release, but failoverflow accelerated that.
Atmosphere has no release date:

Really :P ...

No I meant SDXC cards. You will need the update to use bigger cards.
  • easy way to get SDXC update
No. You just need to format it as fat32 and it will work on any fw any size.
And there is dump of that update which can be applied to any FW so you don't need to update, just "install" the update.

My Pixel Pro buds shit the bed a month or two ago. My wireless charger (which they do support Qi charging) absolutely COOKED them. Caused some problem that caused the case to heat up to 180F+

@Xdqwerty, power through a coil of wire causes an electromagnetic field to be generated. Another coil of wire can be set up to harness the power from that electromagnetic field and turn it into usable energy for charging a device
