Define "under rated."
Do you mean games that has been unfairly rated on a scale to measure excellence.? Or do you mean games that are good, or even great, but generally fly under gamer's radar.
If either of those two definitions are true, then to claim "under rated" is so pointless, that its almost like a paradox. In the 1st definition, you're essentially suggesting that bad should have been ok, ok should have been good, good should have been great, and great should have been excellent/perfect; and not that I advocate using IGN or Gamefaqs as only source of critic reviews, but their reviews are often within 1-1.5 points of what I personally think of a game. When "they" give games scores that I agree with, I don't think they're "under" rated. They're appropriately rated, and maybe even sometimes over rated. Nearly every single game listed above my list, are in my opinion, either appropriately rated, or over rated. Games that were ever deserving of 6, 7, 8, and 9 scores DESERVED those scores. This is why the 1st definition of under rated is pointless, because most people hardly ever follow this literal definition. Because if there is anyone out there that believe Scurge Hive was better than the 7-8 scores it got, should just kill themselves right now. A good game got a good score, and in no way was it deserving of greater scores.
Now the 2nd definition of under rated appears to be more understood, but equally pointless, and again, atleast for me. For the game titles listed above this post, and 99% of the titles that will come after it, are pretty damn well known, given their lack of advertisement during their release. With the exception of Utacchi DS, the games above are titles that I see come up time and time and again, many times in the same threads, across multiple points in time and on multiple forums. Now I would argue that they're well-known enough to sit outside of the range of the 2nd definition of "under rated." Which brings me back to the point of it being pointless. 99% of these so-called "under rated" titles come up quite often in "positive" threads, many, many times... So I ask, "Just what in the hell are so underrated about that?"
Thats why most of the time, "under rated" is generally pointless, because nearly all the people who play along, don't bother breaking apart what the word means. Instead they just blindly blurt out random titles they like just because they're no longer the topic of interest they might have used to be, ehrn in fact, other people mention the same titles every godamn time theres an underrated thread, regardless of forum.
To me, the 1st definition in effect, is a rare occurance. Anyone thinking the game they like deserved a higher score, are 99% just don't know WTF theyre talking about. And people using the 2nd definition are just 99% misunderstood to what should qualify as unknown, known, and well-known.
Anyways Utacchi!! was the one DS game listed above that qualifies as underrated by the 2nd definition. In fact, by 2nd definition, I'd go as far to say that any game on Gamefaqs that has less than 2, 3 tops, Reader submitted reviews, can qualify as an unknown game.
On to my list. By the 1st definition of underrated games:
Okamiden, Spirit Tracks, Golden Sun, Pokemon 5, Bleach DS 2nd.
By 2nd definition:
Koisuru Purin! Pinky Street Music Night, Yatterman 2, Shining Force Feather
Regarding my 1st definition choices, Yes, I honestly believe these great games, were not given the excellent justice they deserve. Regarding 2nd definition, these are games that people almost never talk about, and are void of the NDS essential list, and I can vouch from personal experience they are decent or great games.
