I'm trying to be able to play Gamecube games on my Wii U.
I installed Cold Boot Haxchi as per this guide yesterday:

I can run the Homebrew Launcher.
I can run the Homebrew App Store 2.2
I've used that to install RetroArch 1.8.5
When I then run RetroArch from the Homebrew Launcher (it shows fs:/vol/external01/wiiu/ap...)
It shows a black screen for a second and then returns to the Homebrew Launcher.

As a test, I've also used the Homebrew App Store to install "Simple SDL snake" and that does work.
Here is a directory listing of my SD card if that helps: https://pastebin.com/Wr8A0Ycg
FYI I do also have a USB hard disk plugged in that I've been using for basic Wii U storage before modding.

Thank you.
The guide's to mod my vWii says that, to use Method 1, "You need your Wii U on firmware v5.5.1".
Mine is on 5.5.4.
So it sounds like I will need to use "Install method 2 - vWii. The old method, inherited from the Wii era". Is that correct?

asktoby, did you ever figure out why your retroarch was black screening? I am setting mine up on Wii U for the first time as well and I keep getting stuck here. I’ve followed several guides to install retroarch on my SD card, even last night I followed a guide that had me repair the assets and bundle files after the install, but still can’t get retroarch to open from the Homebrew Channel, just goes to black screen and then dumps me back into Homebrew Channel. All other Homebrew Channels seem to work.

Great, I've got Nintendont working in the vWii now, thanks for the pointers.
  • Is there a way to use the Wii U Gamepad to control GC games in the vWii? (I've seen videos of this but they're old.)
  • Is there a way to launch GG games from the Wii U homescreen?

(Drbadass: I haven't got Retroarch working yet, will let you know if I do.)

Hello.:)

Yes for both Questions.
- You can install the Nintendont Forwarder Channel as @jeannotte suggested

- You can make GameCube Injects for Example with the Wii U USB Helper (Please Note you need the ISO from the GameCube Game to achieve this).

Thank you.:)

I'm sorry, I'm still quite confused. Googling for "Nintendont Forwarder Channel" is bringing up a lot of different things.

Do I understand correctly that to use the Wii U gamepad for Gamecube games I should install USBLoaderGX on my vWii from /https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/?

Am I right that to launch GC games directly from my Wii U I should download WiiU USB Helper? If so, I've downloaded it from https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/wii_u_usb_helper.html but the installer fails (https://pastebin.com/k2uZjVYd).

OK I managed to get a bit further.
I followed this video:
I'm now able to run Nintendont from my Wii U and then launch GC games with gamepad support from within.
I don't know if I'm doing this in the best way, but it does at least work!

Hell not sure what was going on but for like a few weeks MP3's sounded muffled, some driver or Windows update fixed it. Thank god lol

I'd sooner buy the Meze 109 Pro if I was dropping that much on headphones. I don't even like buds/IEMs
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I got the Google Pixel Pro buds, they're good enough for when I need portable audio. And some really cheap IEMs that Dankpods recommends, I think the KZ ZSN Pro

I'd stick with cheapo Chinese $10 ones quality is actually becoming on pair with name brand since name Brand usually quads the price up anyway loose one bud that's another $200
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
My Pixel Pro buds shit the bed a month or two ago. My wireless charger (which they do support Qi charging) absolutely COOKED them. Caused some problem that caused the case to heat up to 180F+
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
They were like 9 months out of warranty but I hit up Google support anyway and told them how hot they were getting and they replaced them with new ones because they wanted these for failure analysis lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    lol wireless charging
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah that's why I can't bring myself to even spend $100 on wireless earbuds
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it's a cool idea but damn
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Apparently the case has a problem with >15W wireless chargers. Google design fault, that one.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I could live with wireless charging if the damn standard case doesn't block connection
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    how is wireless charging possible?

you mean generally, how does the concept work?

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    Copper conducting electricity or something
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@Xdqwerty, power through a coil of wire causes an electromagnetic field to be generated. Another coil of wire can be set up to harness the power from that electromagnetic field and turn it into usable energy for charging a device
