My Wii has been softmodded for 5 years and I've never had any trouble with it before.

Been able to troubleshoot any problem, including bricks.

I didn't install/change anything, one day it just started doing this.

The system menu boots, makes the chimey jingle sound, then freezes with a loud buzzing sound.

Is there a dol I can run from SD or something, to maybe try restoring cIOS packages to their defaults?

The only screen I can get to work is the BootMii screen...

woa.. maybe she or someone accidentally pressed keys...

can you reach priiloader? and open homebrew channel? if you can put homebrew channel to work you can try to install the wads again

edit: if you can, please use syscheck http://www.hacksden.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=149

and post here the results (it will create a file on sd card)

It boots to Priiloader, but HBC doesn't load. The Wii power light stays on, but the Wiimote disconnects immediately, and I think it stops sending a video feed to the tv as well!

on priiloader there is "laod\install file" use that to launch syscheck (put syscheck on the sd card)

check if it boots..

do you remember the system version and region the wii had?

I think it was 4.2U. Syscheck doesn't work (just says "failed to load!", doesn't really seem to try loading it either, error returns pretty much immediately)

I think it seems like it's toast. Time to get a WiiU, I guess! Thanks for trying to help, though. I've been a lurker here for years, never posted though. This is like the best forum.

well, try to launch http://filetrip.net/wii-downloads/homebrew/download-multi-mod-manager-134-f13015.html
multimod manager (its the best wad installer IMO), or another wad installer

if you can make a wad installer work, you can install the IOS again and probably fix it. give it a try!

if you manage to get a wad installer to work. i would love to help...

The weird thing is, the screen that the Wii boots to before loading the system menu, the one that says press the A button, that works fine. And when the system menu boots, before it freezes, all my content is there, and the wii mote works for a second. It seems like it has to be that I accidentally overwrote some ios the system menu needs.

in multimod manager you can switch the cIOS that is loaded. but i dont think it will help...

is there something i have to do to the file structure of a dol on the sd card to get it to boot from priiloader? could that be the problem? i've never had to load anything through priiloader, so it could be something preliminary I'm missing?

nope you just have to put it in the same folder as others. you can also try with a 2gb or less sd card but i dont think it will help...

Yeah, it's not actually a big deal. The worst part of it is that my girlfriend was playing Chrono Trigger, and her save file is gone now. She was at the end of the game, too.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
