Well, that's cool. Cystic Fibrosis will knock me off early, but at least I'll get a couple more years from Khalua.

Haven't we known for a while that drinking some types of alcoholic beverages in moderation can have beneficial side effects?

Heart wise and red wine only (eww), yes, but there's something else going on if it actually is increasing years on people's lives by drinking any kind of alcohol in moderation.

Lol. I knew it! My sister was always saying that alcoholics must be the most healthy people in the world. Only she meant that one must truly be made of steel and concrete to be able to withstand such a self-harm.

Actually read the OP, not just the title. Only Moderate drinkers benefit (41% death). Alcoholics are mass-consumers on alcohol, they have a shortened life as well according to the OP (60% death). Nondrinkers were the worst at 69% death.

But I did:

"Meanwhile, the heavy drinkers fared better than those who abstained, with a 60 percent mortality rate. Despite the increased risks for cirrhosis and several types of cancer, not to mention dependency, accidents and poor judgment associated with heavy drinking, those who imbibe are less likely to die than people who stay dry."

Am I that wrong in assuming that heavy drinkers are actually borderline alcoholics?
