It's a pretty old article, nevertheless, check it out. I'm sure most of you came across this already.

    hmmm...

Also, drinking is great and all that, but I highly doubt it'd extend your life because of your liver. And our humanbody feeds from the liver's nutrients, or we simply die.

The article says it's about moderate drinking though, and as far as I know moderate drinking doesn't cause liver damage.

According to that research even heavy drinkers live longer than people who don't drink....something seems slightly awry with that.

I have to say, that study sounds a bit on the bogus side of things. Not to mention, there are far too many variables when looking at the causes of premature death. You can't just say "well, they weren't drinking, so clearly, that's the cause!" Plus, what difference are we talking about? What defines premature death for this study? Too few details make this study look all bad, and I'm not paying to have a look at the official document.

You're comparing water intoxication to drinking too much alcohol?

Drinking too much alcohol means going over the recommended units per day (3-4 men, 2-3 women), water intoxication is drinking far more than that.

i thought more people get killed by drunk drivers than any other accident? oh i get it, but the driver usually survives. the study seems inconsequential to me

The fuck is wrong with your mindset.

Alcohol is not as bad as you may think. Even those drugs you stated have good effects but sadly it's cons outweigh the pros. Alcohol on the other hand, cons only presents itself the more you drink within a short space of time. Hitting a shot or two a day won't affect your health in a negative way at all.

I'll agree with the lot of that this study is a bit inconsequential considering the variables. The study itself is the monitorng of individuals from legal drinking age till death, which in fact gives way for a lot of variables.

Would be nice if there was a more controlled study...either way you can't outrightly dismiss the results.

So, it's either live a potentially healthy shorter life, or a potentially problematic longer life?

Jesus drank some wine every now and then, according to what I've read. But disregarding that wine does have it's benefits. It's perfectly fine to do things in moderation but don't overdose and over do it.

I could go and mention the numerous problems with this study, or how the media article only reports the raw uncorrected percentages - if you look at the actual data from the journal, it's far less dramatic. But, I can leave that to somebody like Foxi. The bottom line is that moderate drinking is okay, and may have some health effects. But people are very bad with what "moderate drinking" is actually defined as. At least in the US, it's defined as 1 drink (meaning, 1 shot or 1 beer or 4 oz of wine) per day for women or 2 drinks per day for men, assuming average body weight.
