Hacking Start menu not working

So I am using the zelda theme that was available when i first downloaded the wood software, however whenever I press the start button on my ds nothing happens, if I use the touch screen the icon moves, so my buttons are fine, and pressing start in games works. The only thing wrong with my ds is the L button is broken. I would appreciate any and all advice,

you switched safe mode on. to switch off you need to edit globalsettings.ini at pc.
