Gta 3 on dsi
Post automatically merged:

I recently saw on x or tweeter that a guy is trying to port gta 3 on dreamcast, would it be possible on the nintendo dsi?

dsi vs dream dsi arm9 133mhz and arm7 33mhz vs hitachi 200mhz dream memory ram 16 mb dsi vs 16 also memory video 512kb dsi vs 8mb dream dsi 150 thousand polygons per second the dream if I'm not mistaken is 900 thousand polygons per second

we saw that the dreamcast is more powerful if you run it on the dreamcast with an effort run it on the dsi some things obviously have to have it and the anti-aliasing which the dsi doesn't have and the resolution obviously because it is a portable

I would go with the 3DS, but not even the old one. I would go with a New 3DS or 2DS, and if you want a wider screen, a New 3DS/2DS XL/LL.

I doubt if anyone will port this game to DSi. As we know, someone once made a port for 3ds and even then it was only for New 3ds, not for old 3ds. Even as far as I'm concerned, we have to compress some files to make it playable on the 3ds. I don't think it's practical and the performance isn't very good, but at least it's playable.

Then, I don't know much about hardware, but if you look at the hardware side, DSi's hardware also has limitations, especially memory. So, it would be very impractical. But, seeing that I tried GTA SA running on DSi using Win2DS, it would be really cool if someone actually made a port or homebrew of it for DSi. :yaynds:

I'm talking about the port that is happening for dremcast if it runs on dreamcast it will definitely run on the dsi I'm not talking about the 3ds port because it's much more powerful I'm just comparing dream with dsi

i'd be surprised if it were possible even with severely downgrading the graphics and audio, the o3ds can barely run it and the n3ds struggles pretty harshly when anything related to audio is playing

you'd need to essentially port it to the ps1 to then port it to the dsi, the dreamcast is orders of magnitude more powerful than a DS(i), even with it's age

also thanks to T2's shenanigans, even if it were made you wouldn't be able to distribute it

You just have to mention GTA3 for me to show up. The Dreamcast port looks like it has a ways to go, which is bad because, based on the video above, it's using the DMCA'd RE3 code. Maybe Take Two have mellowed now that they've released the "Definition Editions," but I imagine it's like using Yuzu's code while Nintendo's still on the prowl.

I don't know what to say about a DSi port because I haven't looked up the specs. I would expect a Vita port long before a port to a Nintendo portable (with the exception of the Switch).

Ha, shows what I know. Thanks for the info!

I don't have a Vita, but I hope it's still floating out there somewhere.
PS Vita has GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas and Bully fully ported and perfectly working.

(New) Nintendo 3DS only has GTA 3 and Vice City, and the latter had lots of issues and basically barely runs at a playable state.

I know that the dreamcast is more powerful than it comes out but there are points where the two are more equal The biggest difficulty would be 512kb of vram I made a comparison above I don't think it would be impossible but maybe they have to reduce the textures and others even further gta 3 stuff

And if you allocate GTA 3 to the DSI's 16 MB RAM, would it be possible? I'm not a programmer, maybe I said something stupid, but how could I?

I looked up some footage of the 3DS version, and it really is an achievement. Unfortunately, the game hiccups constantly, and the framerate is more stable if the radio is turned off. I looked into the Vita port, and that version seems to run smoothly.

Having looked at footage of the 3DS version running, I would not expect a DSi port to get far off the ground. I could see a developer making a proof of concept for fun, but a full port would take a special kind of dedication.

It would take an enormous amount of work to make the game playable on the DSi, since GTA3 just barely reaches a playable state on the 3DS. I think a DSi port project is a hard sell because it'd require a lot of work, and the end result would not be considered a proper GTA3 experience.

If portable GTA3 is your goal, it might be time to consider a Steam Deck or Vita.

It would be impossible to get a decent port to run at all, also keep in mind that the Dreamcast is far away in specs compared to a DSi. That being said, if you still want to squeeze the game to make it work on DSi hardware, it will require a full code rewrite, which would be a lot of work and wasted time because TakeTwo would take down the project immediately anyway.

TL;DR: Impossible, the DSi is to weak for a port, and making a "portable" edition would be a wasted taken down project.
