Figured I'd post this here, nothing to lose.
This is a patch for Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor that ups the music sample rate from 16364hz to 32728hz, the DS's native sample rate. And even more critically, in my opinion, it uses the full-length songs; all the music in this game was shortened significantly, but this is no longer an issue once patched. All the loops sound perfect, don't worry.

IT IS COMPATIBLE WITH ANY LANGUAGE.
Funciona con cualquier idioma.
それはどんな言語とも互換性があります。

IMPORTANT: If you are going to use this mod with an emulator, it may not be optimal. This is due to how audio emulation works, at least in DraStic and DeSmuME, but potentially standalone desktop MelonDS and MelonDS Android (I haven't tested those yet).
Rather than use the DS's sample rate of 32728hz and upsampling to the system rate, they set the DSP's rate to the system rate (usually being 44.1khz or 48khz), resulting in innacurate filtering, or lack thereof. For "perfect" DS samples like the ones in this patch, this makes them sound crusty as hell
There is a version of the mod provided that samples the music at 44.1khz, but as I did not develop the mod with this quirk in mind, it is just upsampled quickly in LoopingAudioConverter rather than manually re-encoded from the CD-quality source files, so the quality will be worse than the base version of the mod. My suggestion is to play on a real console, and if you use TwilightMenu++, be sure to set the audio rate to 32.73khz so the sample rate of the DSP is matched with the music.

I also have BGM patches for Devil Survivor 2, Strange Journey, Overclocked, and Record Breaker, and am working on finalizing my patch for The World Ends With You, which will include an undub option. I'll link those here once the posts are made.

HAVE FUN SURVIVING THE DEVIL AND STAN HARU

Should this go under? IDK, but I need to get the message out there.

The only reason I haven't release the Overclocked patch yet is because the game is programmed to play back mono audio. Standalone posts haven't gone anywhere, but maybe a release thread will.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE BOUNTY AND/OR HAVE BEGINNER-MODERATE(????) REVERSE-ENGINEERING KNOWLEDGE, please visit the link below. I have tried and failed time and time again to make Devil Survivor Overclocked play back stereo audio due to my limited skill set, so if you have more of a clue than me, I implore you to help out here.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
