Hacking [Release] rxTools - Roxas75 3DS Toolkit [fw 2.0 - 9.2]

Yesterday, I successfully used the latest 3.0 build that WhoAmI? released to upgrade my backup O3DS to 9.2U and then downgrade the MSET to 4.x. Today, I want to do the same to my primary O3DS (which I currently dualboot between GW and rxTools 2.6), but I have a question that needs answering before pulling the trigger. Will the regular GW 4.x ROP work with a downgraded MSET, or do I have to use the 4.x DG ROPCustom.txt option to run the Launcher.dat? If it's the latter, how exactly do I set that up?

Welp, looks like my code is now pretty useless, if we can't build the msetdg.bin files anymore. I didn't really foresee this happening so soon, so I didn't make backups of all the possible bins for every region yet. If anyone has them, they should put them on that ISO site for now, so we can find them all. I personally have a complete 9.2U CIA package backup, browser included, but not the other regions. I do have the 6.x US MSET in msetdg.bin form though, so there's that at least. I wish I hadn't cleaned out my 3DNUS folder about a week ago now, as I had every region and every version, same with the browsers. Though it's more of an inconvenience than anything, it is a pain that Nintendo choose to pull all the old versions. It's not like they did it to the DSi or Wii branch, so I don't get why they did it to the 3DS branch.

Except they did, on the Wii. In fact, they started replacing some of the installers with patched versions

msetdg, isn't that the same file that you can download from the gateway website? If so, you have all the regions there.

Anytime you mess with sysNAND you have a chance of bricking your 3DS. You could download what you think is a valid GBA CIA and install it, but instead it over-writes a very critical system title instead, and then bricks your 3DS. So make sure you do your reading and research before just jumping into something like this. I really think you need to read a bit more.

I agree to a point with what you are saying but this is straight fear mongering. "Anytime you mess with sysNAND" every time you boot the system up it writes to the sysnand. As long as you are safe and aren't downloading unknown CIA's which could intentionally brick your unit, you will be fine.

Those are 4.5, not 6.x

Well I just figured out how to use the ropCustom.txt option and tried it out for myself on the backup O3DS. GW's Launcher.dat won't load on a downgraded MSET via ropCustom.txt option of the rxinstaller included in WhoAmI?'s release. Gateway can't be load with downgraded mset on ol3ds higher than 4.X, not supported yet. Gateway...

I just posted about this on the official Gateway support forum. Hopefully they'll catch up to a 3DS scene, before flashcards get rendered completely obsolete. The only thing keeping them relevant is the lack of a public .3DS/.3DZ loader, because .CIA files are still an inconvenience in terms of both installing and uninstalling.

System process writing to the system are different than user processes writing to the system. You're right that as long as you do your research you're good to go, but for any novice this is sound advice. Better to make sure they understand the risks associated with installing items than saying "Ah, you'll be fine just do it!"

I got a 2.0.0-2 form 3DNUS but I'm unsure of the region created on 5/15/2015 contains 89 files and has the size of 81.1mb

Nin's just starting to pull unnecessary firmware files. Took them long enough.

what's going to need to happen from now on is the current firmware has to be downloaded and preserved and archived at that certain other site. that way we'll continue to have what we need in the future. (don't assume 9.9+ will be unhackable forever ;p)
