NOTICE:

It has come to my attention that my old download links and instructions were within the gbatemp rules. I am not linking any actual roms, or full romfs files. I am only linking the individual edited files required to play Rising Sun & Waning Moon. If this is threatened to be taken down once more, I ask that mods first look and tell me why the Nova Sun/Umbra Moon mods do the same and have remained up.

Please ask if you want to upload this elsewhere, or at least give credit back to this post or my twitter.
Lets start off with some context. Currently, pk3DS allows us to edit the trainers and move sets of pokemon within Pokemon Sun and Moon. I decided to go ahead and create a challenge mode of sorts, similar to that of Pokemon Blaze Black/Volt White. Currently editing wild encounters!

Changes:
  • Trial Captains and Kahunas now all have teams of 6 Pokemon.
  • Level curve greatly changed. Team should be in high 70s/low 80s by the end of the elite 4.
  • Trainers have Pokemon not usually seen in Alola.
  • Movesets of weaker Pokemon is finished.
  • Youngster Joey has a top percent Rattata.
  • Wild encounters up until the post game are finished! Have fun everyone!
  • Custom music for post game returning trainers.
  • Almost every Pokemon has access to their hidden ability.

A NOTE ABOUT INSTRUCTIONS:
THE EASIEST METHOD IS GETTING A CFW, DO IT WHILE YOU CAN.
Instructions: (CFW Required for this method. See other method below if you don't have a CFW) I also still need to make the method easier for Pokemon Sun users, sorry!

THINGS YOU NEED:
- Latest nightly build of luma. (Get this through the .cia updater)
- The hack's GARC files (the stuff that actually overwrites the original assets) Get it from the Google Drive link

New and Updated Instructions! About time!

Luma Game Patcher Method:
    • Create a folder named titles inside luma.
    • Create a folder with the game's title id as the name (0004000000164800 for Sun, 0004000000175E00 for Moon) inside titles.
  • Create a folder titled romfs within luma/titles/(titleID)
  • Place the "a" and "data" folders within the "romfs" folder.
  • Make sure "Enable Game Patcher" is checked in luma3ds setup.
  • Start Sun/Moon
Thats it! Easiest way to tell if its working is by starting a new game or checking your Trainer Passport.

FOR POKEMON SUN USERS: RENAME THE "3" FILE IN a\0\8\ TO "2"

Layeredfs: (These instructions only apply if you use the Layeredfs files)

The LayeredFS feature allows you to replace RomFS files with files on the SD card for most games. To use it:
  • Create a folder named titles inside luma.
  • Create a folder with the game's title id as the name (0004000000164800 for Sun, 0004000000175E00 for Moon) inside titles.
  • Create a folder called romfs in the game's folder.
  • Place the "a" and "data" folders within the "romfs" folder.
  • For example, to use LayeredFS with Pokémon™ Sun, make a folder named romfs , put your replacement files in it, then put romfs in 0004000000164800.
FOR POKEMON SUN USERS: RENAME THE "3" FILE IN a\0\8\ TO "2"

Todo:
  • Re balance according to feedback.
  • Re balance Pokemon move sets and stats once tools are available.
  • Add in last few Pokemon. (Some starters, legendaries, etc.)
  • Finish documentation on the various changes.

Credits:
  • Creators of the tools pk3DS, extract repack, etc.
  • Drayano, for being a cool guy that's better at hacking than I am
Sellout:
I'm a filthy sellout. Follow me on twitter to know when major updates for the romhack come out. https://twitter.com/KobeRobsahm

oh trust me i completely understand what that's like! try making them as you go in another google doc though so they dont pile up and intimidate you from getting them together, because having a more detailed change log on stuff like stat changes and movepool changes will def boost interest in this project. but yeah, i dont blame your focus on school, it's completely understandable.

Release of v0.7.1, because why not!

Changelog:
  • Finished up all encounters (I think) for the second island. EncounterData.txt updated.
  • Buffed most of the trainers on route 2.
  • Farfetch'd gained buffs to move pool and stats.
  • Version number on Trainer Passport should be v0.7? Maybe v0.6 if i missed up
Thank god, I'm on route 2 and I was super overleveled, like my team 15-18 and the trainers 12 or so. You shouldn't put any wild Audinos, but I can't resist punching them cuties for sweet exp. :3

Yeah lol. Also I suggest holding off on the second island. The wild encounters bug is back for everywhere but the first island. I need to sleep and go to school and stuff, but will fix it when I'm able.

Don't worry I have yet to beat the first trial. I'm taking it easy because it's a work in progress hack and because I like crafting the perfect team (useful in super difficulty hacks like these, though so far the only part that's been super-difficult was Captain Ilima).

Despite the 2nd island being broken, I suggest getting the latest patch. Buffs the first island.

I always update whenever you post a new version. Loading the files via SaltySD makes it super easy to update.

By the way: capitalization doesn't matter for either the title ID or the sunmoon folder in SaltySD. My title ID is lowercase, so is the "sunmoon" folder, and it works fine. (A reply to an older post)

I finally got it working, thanks everybody for help.

Kobazco: I know this is an annoying question but do you know when you will be finished with the hack so that every trainer is edited and has a stronger team?

Thanks for your work again.

Every trainer is already edited and has a stronger team. What's not finished are the wild encounters.

The popularity this is getting when it's not even finished and wild encounters are still somewhat broken is pretty insane. I'll do my best to keep up with all if the people who are eager to play this now!

i heard about this through Kotaku...amazing work in such a short amount of time. gotta couple questions for ya...

i would like to make my own romhack that is a prequel to the Red/Blue/Yellow games but with the latest game tech. is there anything that you are not able to hack yet? like edit the overworld, change the map, edit character and pokemon sprites etc.

could your rom play on a pc emulator? i think it would be easier to test if it does

how the hell do you have time to create this and go to highschool? i'm 32 and got almost no time at all...not to mention the level of your knowledge

i am a little confused about how this would be used...would your rom overwrite what is on the cartridge, or is it a separate file that stays on the memory card?

Okay so will it overide my progress in the game or how does it work? I have both of the 3ds and a copy of the game.
We'll like I said you need homebrew. Check the requirements on the home brew link on the master post. Once you have home brew you can get a save game manager

Just got to the second island, there are some problems on the first. First, a trainer on route 2 has a pidove with no moves. Second, Illima's second battle isn't edited. I also think the trainers in the cementary aren't edited.
