I believe there will be a video posted tonight of a wii with triple boot.
Can boot Jap, Us, and PAL firmware - making it 100% region free.

what is firmware for you ? Isn't the system Menu responsible for region check, not IOS ?

remeber how that guy posted a video of a wii booting 3.2u, and then fliped a switch and it was 3.1u?
Well there will be a video i am told, of the same thing, but instead of being the same region firmware on a diff version, it will be 3 different regions

oh,I see...

you can already do this by installing/desinstalling the Wii System menu through WAD Manager

the code for installing/uninstalling channels, i.e titles (yes, the System Menu is like any other channel, removable) is no secret, so anybody could code a program based on that which let you switchbetween system menus from different regions

the problem if that it is relatively dangerous to remove the system menu, if something happen in between, your Wii is fully bricked

Is this a softmod?

Hardware mod.
But the fact that change the region means that you can convert a JAP wii into a PAL wii.
Not very useful for americans - but we get atleast 1 email a day saying 'i just bought a japanese, wii on a holiday to japan - how much does it cost to convert it to an aussie wii?'

No, because you have to solder another identical NAND Flash on top the existing one, and then build a switch which allows you to chose the nand from which the Wii will boot.

It is easy to do, yet it still involves soldering and is no softmod.

The triple boot feature is simply a small circut board with 3 NAND chips on it. When a 3 way switch is in one of 3 positions, it will boot from that NAND chip. if done "on the fly", you can seriously damage your Wii.

This is VERY crude, but shows how it works... you have to remove the orignal NAND chip from your Wii, and create a small board yourself that will hold the 3 NAND chips. The 3way switch directs the Wii to load from either a E, U, or J system. If switched while the Wii is on, it could damage the system beyond repair.

This is also a way to get more space on the internal memory, but the same thing happens, you cannot switch chips while the system is on, and is a very dangerous way to do so. Some people just like to modify their consoles to do everything it can.

The only outstanding problem is Starlet.

But teq i just read an interview with team tweezer saying that the new custom IOS there working on will have a recovery mode that will allow full control of starlet. why don't we put the starlet problem on hold untill thats done and work on the little details (if there is some)

just a thought... it may be easier to install the 3 menus on the same nand )obviously with different Title IDs... and then boot them using a menu loader (marcan has one, and comex y working on one also)

Edit: ...my thoght doesn mean i do not apreciate the work others are doing, i think its a real nice work

Well, it depends how you look at it. Starlet is an entire SoC with a lot of programmability. The question is how much and where it ends.

It's strictly dependent on how much security can be circumvented.

seemed better (and easier) to me too... but is the system Menu the only different thing between two different regions Wii ?

About the Final Fantasy C code.. how do you get to it? I've got the game and I haven't been able to unpack the .app files.. all of them have different headers and I don't know what format are they in.

EDIT: Nevermind. Had a wrong key. Just U8. I'll extract them now..

Do you have a surge protector or an UPS?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea but to play the next gen games, you must have those games on internal, or buy the official ssd expansion cards, which are expensive
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@MysticStarlight, dunno what each one of those are

@MysticStarlight, my PS3 was already modded when my dad bought it for me and my brother
  • MysticStarlight @ MysticStarlight:
A surge protector is a device that protects your electronics from fluctuations. I recommend having your console plugged into one of those
  • MysticStarlight @ MysticStarlight:
An UPS is even better because it has an internal battery that keeps your system on even if the power goes out, but it's much more expensive obviously
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@MysticStarlight, oh i recall seeing one in some in the houses of some relatives, including my dad's apartment

@MysticStarlight, although whatever device we plug into them stops getting power anyways lol

On the series s/x you can use a external HD but any next gen games must be on your internal ssd, or you can buy a ssd expansion card, but pricey. Any xbone, 360, or og Xbox games can be played from external tho.
