09/12/10 is written in proper standards format: YY/MM/DD.
There is no possible way it could be anything other than December 10th, 2009.

US common format: MM/DD/YY = September 12th, 2010 -- future date.
EU common format: DD/MM/YY = December 9th, 2010 -- future date.
