Nintendo Switch Online NES games for March 2019 revealed

Last month saw the addition of Super Mario Bros. 2 and Kirby's Adventure to Nintendo's Switch Online NES lineup. This time around, for March 2019, Nintendo has revealed that Kid Icarus and StarTropics will be the new games for the month, with both being playable starting on March 13th. Kid Icarus is an action platformer, and the first game in the eponymous series, which originally released in 1986. StarTropics is a top down adventure game, which has players explore various island villages in an attempt to rescue the player character's uncle from aliens. Both games will be available to anyone with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

These past couple months have had some pretty good games, only a handful of things left that are really notable on the NES, Castlevania and Punch Out come to mind. I'd love to make a prediction about SNES being soon based on x, y, and z, but it's Nintendo, you try to predict them and they laugh in your face. My guess is E3, if not E3 then maybe the 1 year anniversary, either way not super soon.

I’m okay with the way they add games. Even if you beat the games, in a way you could say these are going to be one of the games on your list that you have to beat for the month.

Well, I'll admit I was wrong. When the whole Switch Online NES came out, I predicted they'd add the one line-up of games and basically leave it like that. It looks like they're at least putting some effort into expanding the collection. So, good for Nintendo.
I'd prefer if they'd just get on with releasing SNES VC already. Then the release schedule of two games per month per system wouldn't seem so painfully slow. Really though it's simply a nice little extra, I'm not entitled enough to expect anything special for $20/year.

I actually like the nes emulator, maybe not worth $20, but it plays games out of the box without any configuration pretty well. and thankfully I haven't had it froze at all like with Vc. I'm around half way through SM3, and I'm glad it's there rather something else.

Some Japan exec is purposely choosing games in Japanese just so that the West can't have them. That's my guess.

At least we get StarTropics, if only because it'd have looked bad on them if we only got Kid Icarus.

2 games a month... I'm baffled. At this rate, we'll have a substantial NES lineup in 3-4 years. Of course, NES games will never really feel substantial in their own right but still. I feel like it should be two games a week.. at least these games are pretty good as far as NES games go

@SylverReZ, I dislike the kind of drm where you have to play single player games online all the time bc of some verification bs

@Xdqwerty, Don't use games that have Easy Anti-Cheat as its been exploited many times.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol

So that version is semi rare
