So I tried StarTropics and I'm a bit unsure about this.
The game seems similar to Legend of Zelda (which I strongly dislike) One part of gameplay is like a rpg, in the overworld, you visit various places, talk to people and move to the next dungeon. Inside the dungeon, it's like playing legend of zelda. You pick up weapons you can use to defeat enemies with and there is lots of jumping around.
Some things I don't like about how it plays, is the poor control over the character. Its not as tight as I would want. You can jump across other platforms, but that's the only way to jump while moving. If you aren't trying to jump across something, then you just jump straight up, also you can jump into the water by accident. Walking is bothersome, the character doesn't move the instant I push a direction. He turns around in place, and sometimes I have to hold it longer just to make him actually move before changing directions. It's soo stiff especially when you are fighting enemies and seem unfair with ones that move on a angle which is hard to hit because of movement and not being able to hit on an angle.
There's stuff I don't quite understand like the points, what does it do, give me an extra life? What are the stars for? I don't know. I wonder why it's not possible to view the manual for these games directly from the switch app. Especially if these games are obscure or many people playing for the first time, the virtual console games has manuals. I got up to the second chapter where I had to rescue a dolphin, and I lost so many times. The boss is a octopus that shoots balls at me... might as well be octorok from zelda. It doesn't seem to stop and when it does, it swims close to me and then back away in a instant. I have to constantly jump around to avoid it, and can't reach it. The first part before this was easier. What a weird spike in challenge.
