HELP PLEASE!!!

I just spotted the full sized 1:1 NTSC backup of "New Super Mario Bros: Wii" I'm a softmod user (CiosCorp, but I also have access to SoftChip and NeoGamma) should I wait for a copy with a fixed main.dol file or is there a way to get this working with my setup? I really don't have the time to read all 100 plus pages of this forum. If anyone knows of a way to get this working I would greatly appreciate your help. I promised my girlfriend I would get this one for her and she usually doesn't make special request of my gaming library ("The Beatles: Rockband" and "Scribblenauts", being her only other two request)
if you would like to know the "name" of the file is...

[Wii]New_Super_Mario_Bros_Wii[NTSC][Full_ISO][Wii***.com].torrent

sorry I had to "***" some of the name due to forum rules but I'm pretty sure many of you know which file I'm referring to.

It seems as though nobody has said it yet so I will

QUOTE said:
6) Search and modify to 4e 80 00 20 from 0x1ab750 to 0x1ab753 in main.dol and save.

Doing this may already be confusing to people who have never used a hex editor before, without the engrish

It should simply say QUOTE6) Open the main.dol in a hex editor and change 4 bytes starting at 0x1ab750 to 4e 80 00 20

It would be even easier if the person who made the instructions used the original values as well. (jump to that address and change X to Y). This would avoid any confusion but I have no reason to download a PAL version so I can't provide the original values myself.

Anyway, lots of good info here!

So I just want to confirm that the NTSC version doesn't work, with the PAL patch, obviously.
I believe the problem is that the 4 byte string is at a different offset, since the data at offset for the PAL main.dol is different the for the NTSC main.dol.
WiiPower, when you made the on-the-fly patch for neogamma, it only applies it to game ID SMNP01 and not all games? I am downloading the PAL version and will compare and see if I can find the correct offset for the NTSC version.

Hey so I know I'm a noob but I'm just wondering...I'm planning on buying the retail nsmb wii, and I have a softmodded 4.0 Wii
I just want to play it normally without reformatting my wii. I tried looking for an answer but people were assuming with their responses
1. Does the disk make you update (i have the waniwiko 4.0 thingy or something installed)
2. If it makes me update will I be safe (will it break my wii or not?)
3. Is there any other problems or things I should know?
Thanks

I looked at the source and I found where he patches it in the main.dol

I have the NTSC version, and the problem with his patch is that if you search for the long string he changes, it doesn't work.

His looks for the string:

9421FFD07C0802A690010034396100304812D9397C7B1B787C9C23787CBD2B78

However, in the main.dol for the NTSC version, the closest thing to it in the main.dol is this:

9421FFD07C0802A69001003439610030482D51A17C9B23787CBC2B787C7A1B78
^
So it changes right about where I indicated.

I'm not sure how well it works if you patch it that way. When I patched the same opening value with what this topic says to patch, I get an error when the game launches when I use uloader.

I can however get past that when I use Waninkoko's cIOS rev 15 instead of hereme's latest cIOS222. I'll see if I can get into it before it crashes. I could get into the game without patching it with Waninkoko's cIOS rev 15, but then it crashes. I'm going to try to combine the patch with the cIOS and see what can be done.

Edit:

Yeah, it crashes even when I change the value in the NTSC main.dol to what the PAL one is changed to at the string similar to that.

For the PAL version, I compared the patched main.dol to the original main.dol and the original values at the 0x1ab750 were 94 21 FF D0.

0x001AB610 - 0x001AB613 should read 4E 80 00 20

Is the offset that needs to be changed on the NTSC version. Values need to be changed to the same as the PAL version.

I have confirmed this working via USB (WiiFlow), Just to let people know it did prompt me to create new save data, so I don't think PAL and NTSC saves are interchangeable.

I have a dol, but obviously can't share it on here, but PM me for details.

And with this patched USA dol, we can simply use it for alt.dol loading like we could with the PAL version, correct? Or replacing the main.dol with the patched one via WiiScrubber and having a patched/fixed ISO?

I have only used it my replacing it with wiiscrubber 1.4, but I assume it works both ways, maybe someone who uses alt dols on a regular basis can check, also note you will have to rename the dol to whatever form your loader uses.

OK finished dumping. Started the game, played through the first level. I thought it was all good. Then got the dreaded "an error has occurred" message while wandering around the map. Had to force shutoff. Started it again, this time the same message appeared in the middle of a level.

I seem to remember running into this with SSBB. Man I blew like 5 DVD-DL medias before I got a good burn on SSBB.

I burned it at 8x. I just made reburns of all my backups since they were all scratched up. Using the same media they all work perfectly, EXCEPT NSMB of course.

I'll reburn at 2x and see what happens. I'll update you guys.

I updated the first post a bit..will update it more tomorrow. Until then, and I'm wondering why nobody made this until now, why can't somebody make a PPF-Patch of the main.dol? This would make the things a bit easier, and legal to share...just a though...

Alright it took hours upon hours to install "4.2U Safe Firmware Undater" with my POS router but I managed to do it.
So I have a Wii with 4.2U and Wiikey and I'm trying to play New Super Mario Bros.

I already downloaded and installed IOS53 and IOS70 like this guide says to do, but when I put in the disc it tells me there is an update.
What does it mean by patch them with the Trucha bug? All I did was open Dop-IOS Mod, chose IOS249 and downloaded IOS 53 and 70. Is there something else I need to do??

Well, thanks a million for the USA offset jakem79!

I'm burning a 1:1 copy now and as soon as I'm done I'll patch the dol and burn a fixed one as well.

then I'll have my hads full testing between these two burns, and cIOSrev14 and 15 with cIOScorp installed

Hey guys ... please help. I have a Soft modded wii 4.0E with CIOS38 rev 13a and neo gamma R7 ... when i put mario in through DVD it cant read it ... please help a noob like me
frown.gif

doesn't work for softmodders yet

Actually it does. Use cIOS rev15 and uLoader 3.1.

Yes works for me!
Softmod Wii Via Disc

I am running a:
Softmodded Wii Ver. 3.3U
Burned a patched ISO Imgburn 1x (Haven't tried unpatched.)
Onto a TDK DVD-R 4x.
Installed the cIOS rev15
Got it working through uLoader 3.1 on cIOS 249

My only problem is that the game seems to load incredibly slow (10 seconds each time I go down a pipe). Perhaps it is because of the TDK 4x?
Should I be using different DVDs or is that something I should expect from uLoader?

So you're attempting your own dump? I couldn't help but notice that you just joined yesterday (but admit that you could have been lurking for years for all I know).
What cIOS revision do you have installed? I don't know exactly how true it is but I've read several times that cIOS rev7 was the best one to use to make dumps.
