Same for me.....there is no solution except to install HBC and I think its to big a risk for just one game myself. I have the same error, restart upon clicking start. Wait for the NTSC version and theres a small possibility it might play...a very small one. Its time for a new chip

No it doesnt help a bit because we all know it works fine from USB, NOT FROM DVD. a flash drive is not a dvd

xxquatroxx said:New Super Mario Bros is finaly working with the dvd on a softmod without a chip / hardmod and without a external hardrive!
Is working with every backup / iso and on every Firmware!
So scrubbed versions are working!
Also fixed en patched versions are working.
you don't need to use a alternet dol.
and you don;t have to delete the update within the game
What do you need to get this working:
cios 38 rev 15
cios 222 v4 (for uloader 3.0)
uloader 3.1 (u need 3.1, lower doesn't work, remember, tho you are using this usb loader you dont need to have a external hdd)
any copy of New super mario bros works.
here is the download: http://www.mediafire.com/?d2ndzmjwazz (i used this download on a PAL wii edition i dont know about NTSC editions)
order of installation:
first install cios 38 rev 15 and then install cios 222 v4. Then reboot your wii and start through HBC the uloader 3.1.
Once you've started uloader 3.1 press the 2 button on your wii mote to start the dvd function.
one the dvd function is started you can edit the config menu. click on config!
select cios 249 en click on OK! and start the game.
A lot of game fun folks!
and its about bloody f*cking time too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The original works.scoobydoo1 said:I don't know if this info is of interest to anyone, but here goes.
My Wii is a very early unit, maybe 3 months after the Wii's launch. Out of the box I installed Wiikey v1 in it which was flashed to FW 1.9s when SSBB came out. That's it as far as mods go, just the Wiikey, no other soft mods of any kind. Wii FW stayed at 3.2U ever since.
So with NSMB finally there's a game that interests me. Went to a few stores yesterday, no one will sell the game. Checked out Wii Sports Resort at Toys R Us and bought a copy. With the original retail disc, it updated my Wii to 3.4U. I tested the game, no problem. Tested all my backup DVDs, all played fine. Then I dumped Resort, burned at 8x, the backup plays perfect. Away from my kids I put the original DVD.
Just now I came back from Toys R Us, bought NSMB. Funny thing with this game. It prompted me to update, no surprise there, and I let it. Went relative quickly, maybe a minute. Now my Wii is at 4.1U. Just to make sure, I tested my Wii Resort backup. Works fine. I reinsert the original NSMB, it prompted another update. WTF? I ejected the disc and reinserted it. This time it said the disc (original disc no less) cannot be read. Double WTF?? Ejected it and put back the Resort backup, played fine.
Rebooted and booted NSMB, it prompts for a second update. I let it. This time it took much longer, like when I updated 3.2U to 3.4U from the Resort retail disc. About 3-4 minutes. It finished its thing and reboots. I check Wii settings, still at 4.1U firmware. What was that second update about?!
Checked my Wii Resort backup, still works. Rebooted with my retail NSMB disc, playing fine so far.
So bottomline, the original USA retail disc works fine on Wiikey'ed Wiis.
I'll dump the game shortly and see if it works.
