Started it, everything looked like it was going well, then an error occurred and my 3DS won't turn on. Blue light, no screen activity. Removed SD card, doesn't turn on. Recovery with SD, doesn't turn on. Recovery without SD, doesn't turn on.

Thankfully I still have my N3DS XL I guess...
Any way to turn this back into a handheld from paperweight status?

Same happened to me ... sounds like it is just a permanent paperweight at this point.
Lol, love how the other threads claim it's 100% safe if you don't do anything stupid.
My .cias were perfectly fine, I had the right region, etc.
Yeah right. My fault, but really... don't present it as 100% safe if it is not.

Yep my story exactly ... I was being extremely careful to make sure I followed exactly. md5 checked my files etc. but still glitched out while installing the cia's for no reason and perma bricked.

There's that "Also note" in the OP :/

Julian20 made a new sysupdater and people are reporting success with it.
That's besides the point. The OP was replying to people in the thread telling them it was totally safe as well. Spread of misinformation isn't right.

you take sysUpdater from OP? this one is not safe at all since it don't install safemod firmware first. Sorry if you brick it, I apologize a lot man
Thanks. I wish I would have known that before. The worst part is that the OP was saying it was totally safe in replies and such. That just irritates me to no end.

bricked mine too. the updater crashed while it was installing the downgrade. nothing but a blue light to show for it. that said there were warnings literally all over the place. people that are suprised are in denial. especially when it was clear that there was going to be a safer way to do it within a week or 2. i went into it fully accepting the risk of doing it and am completely fine with the outcome.

It is totally save -.-
It's like 100 people says "it works " but 2 unlucky ones "Nope.."
Well I wouldn't say it's "totally safe" if there is a chance of catastrophic failure.

I'm fine with the outcome as well, but it upsets me how many people were saying it's completely safe when it's obviously not.

Just to clarify up for everyone. As of now, no matter which updater you use, it is UNSAFE for N3DS. Don't even bother right now if you don't want to risk a brick.

Following the instructions directly and using the proper files CAN and WILL result in at the least, a Soft-brick. Through no fault of your own. Avoid for now unless you like bricktown.

Exactly. I followed everything exactly and this still happened. Do you think it will be possible to repair a soft-brick in the future? Do you think Nintendo would fix it if I sent it in?
