Hey Everyone,
Please note:

The gbatemp & gbatmw mentioned is not true .

We don’t know Japanese & we don’t communicate with moonlight directly .

All the communication is taken by our Japan agent (He sell our M3 in Japan) .

Before moonlight made the firmware of Sakura , our Japan agent who asked moonlight & paid the enough money to him than moonlight sign the agreement & help us to make the firmware .

We don’t know why he said it now …..



Maybe moonlight is not satisfied our work or something ….

We don’t know it.

Our Japan agent will try to understand it later.

Why they have complain at Rudolph when he has hacked Sakura ? Did the team has register this tradmark or something ?

No way. For me there is something not clear in this story ... two Japanese guys. It's not a coincidence.

Hope Moonlight will continue to produce great homebrew and continue to code on his moonshell 2.00.

The region lock does have a useful purpose (or the potential for one, at least) - it should allow them to provide better support to each region, since I think we can all agree that Japanese and Asian texts are vastly different from English and other languages. They use an entirely different alphabet, with a hell of a lot more characters, so it's not so simple to translate (especially in cases where the files size is critical). What's frustrating for us, of course, is that we seem to be left in the dark for so long.

Don't get me wrong, I wonder about their motives as well - I said the lock has the potential for a valid reason, but it is also potentially used for the wrong reasons, and that does feel like it is the case this time. But maybe they're having difficulties we aren't yet aware of... Just trying not to be so cynical, negative energy can be quite draining

For me this lock and indirectly the one on GBAexploader, is to make more money.
As far as i know when the M3real was out on Dealextreme the Asian version was cheaper compared to the English one.
Same with R4/M3S.

There is probably something pratical in this lock but the main part for me is money.

We might not know the whole story... but *this* definitely doesn't satisfy me, either. Three days have passed and all we get to hear is "The gbatemp & gbatmw mentioned is not true". I dunno, but if it is not true then I would very much want to hear the "truth". This is, at least, very bad PR work. Being not a native english speaker (or even a very bad english speaker) is no excuse. Do you really think this company consists of several "divisions"? Why don't they employ someone cappable of speaking the english language, then?

I'm beginning to get impatient and any sane person with interest in the future of Moonshell should be, too.

I don't understanding rudolph really. I wouldn't spend all this time creating a program that is going to make someone millions if there wasn't a legal contract that I could use to get my fair share.

As bad as the English is, we can pull a bit of new information.
Well, confirmed information that I had already assumed to be the case.

1.) Moonlight WAS in fact paid. Paid before he even signed the agreement.
2.) He signed some form of agreement. It's probably safe to assume this was a contract of some sort.

Coupled with the translation of Moonlight's post...
Moonlight made mention of not receiving money for any cart sold due to Sakura.
This means, as I had assumed before, that it's more likely he just wants a cut of any profits made if no one broke their contracts.
Otherwise someone broke their end of the contract at some point as I mentioned in an earlier post.

OR

If it's true that everything goes through a Japanese agent...it's very likely something was translated wrong in negotiations/the work contract.
This whole thing can easily just be a misunderstanding due to a translation error.
In other words...Moonlight might be doing what most of you are doing. Reacting without knowing the whole truth.

TBH I'm gonna say a Modded/hacked Sakura because
a.) It's finished and contains not many/no bugs whereas 2.5 is pretty frustrating in it's beta stages.
b.) It won't be giving M3 the satisfaction anyway because it was still moonlight's creation in the first place and M3 don't benefit from it anyway which is good news if you're ticked about 'The News'

I said it already, I'm not taking any sides, I'm just trying to calm down all of you folks here, because otherwise this would be a flamethread!

You have two sides in this! You can't clap with one hand (one smart guy told this once

)..I'm just saying that this might not be entirely M3 Teams fault!
We're moderating, we have to act like that, I can't just remove all posts in favor of Moonlight, because I think he's right and not M3 Team, I also can't remove all posts in favor of M3 Team, because I think they are right, I have to settle down the situation here, and keep this conversation as clean as possible!

Well Moonshell2 is very similar to sakura and I translated that in a day soo no its not that hard to translate a firmware menu that has less than 500 words used its about money I mean just look at other flash carts like the cyclo it has many other languages selectable right from the main menu

Well I think they just are trying to protect m3 users so I'm cool with that Because it's not there fault They saw a flashcart they liked that had a cool firmware and bought it And probably enjoy it very much good for them. as far as GBATemp Moderators Go i think there stance on the situation is questionable I mean Moonshell one of the biggest homebrew projects used by almost everyone stops development because The M3 team fires moonlight (what I think happened I'm currently re-translating it which I'll post in a few days) and won't give him royalties that he rightfully deservies guys gotta make a living and he put A lot of time into that development. So he is out of a job and money He gets Depressed (depression is a real illness I suffer from it too) and stops development of his amazing homebrew. Now here is where it gets wierd so Homebrew... this is a homebrew site right gbaTEMP meaning to Create yes its also about gaming but mostly homebrew, romehacking, and gamer community. Well M3 is a flashcart that runs homebrew and Roms but sakura has bad homebrew support so it mostly boots roms.... So how does defending the M3 team help the homebrew community? thats my question to you Because I cant see how it helps homebrew. I personally Don't hold anything against the mods They just have a different opinion and I respect that so please don't flame the mods they work very diligently and hard to keep these forums operational and make it so we can Discus controversial issues like this in a diligent fashion and until everything is set in stone which this translation is not just at Toni Plutonij said. oh hey mods by the way can you sticky this thread I think I'm going to make it my Moonshell 2 translation/improvement base unless you think I should just make a new thread for the next release due to the controversy of this thread

Moonshell2 have not ran into very many issues with My Moonshell2 at all actually just one and it has several features not in sakura including better video playback with the new DPG converter working fantasticly plus Its preset to soft reset on a cyclo

But try both to see what you like. like this user said it wont help M3 either way only problem I have with sakura it the last dldi version I could find is fairly old

I'm not really supporting either side. I'm just questioning the fact that people are so quick to pick sides.
I'm just trying to bring to light other possibilities on the situation. It might seem like I'm defending M3, but it's only because no one else is playing devil's advocate so to speak.

The situation doesn't sound like Moonlight was hired for a job, it's sounds more like he was put on commission to make Sakura.
Which means payment upfront/after the commission is completed and that's it unless otherwise stated in the contract.
Like hiring a web designer. They create the website, get paid upfront or after they're done, and continue on their way.
They don't get royalties for helping bring in customers to the company unless, like I said, otherwise stated in the contract.

So really, it comes down to that contract/agreement M3 had with Moonlight.
Either one of them broke their end of the agreement or something was misinterpreted/lost in translation.

Back on topic though, am I the only one with the MP3 playback issue I stated earlier?
Seems long/high quality MP3's stutter during the first few seconds of playing on Moonshell2...and Sakura for that matter.
Playback is perfect on Moonshell 1.71.

Zarcon, I have that issue in 1.71 as well as Sakura/Moonshell 2, so I'm not sure exactly what the issue is. I have a Kingston 2GB (formatted with the Panasonic tool), so it shouldn't be a read speed problem, but that's the only thing I can think of.

I always knew m3 were bastards, first they copied off R4 (well everyone is now) now this, this moonshell was the moonshell i always hoped for, a new gui and stuff, i hope he releases the source code and we can continue his legacy, moonlight u are a god! oh and they threatend Rudolph for almost exploiting loading commercial games and hacking the Sakura, yeah.

Weren't the R4 and m3 Simply a collaborative effort? Does anyone know for certain? I read this was the case but it's easy to get disinformation online.

First the R4 team and M3 team worked together. Where did you get the thought that M3 stole Sakura? M3 contracted Moonlight to make Sakura and Moonlight was paid upfront. If he didn't find the money satisfactory then he should have stopped long before he started working on the project. Also "this new moonshell" which has a new GUI was based off Sakura, so in a way if the M3 Team had not employed Moonshell to work on Sakura, Moonshell 2 wouldn't be the same now as we know it. It probably wouldn't have the Sakura style, I'm pretty sure most other flashcart users are disgruntled by this because you got a taste of how good Sakura is and now you are angry because it has been discontinued. But I don't know Moonlight might go back to working with the M3 Team and release more updates for Moonshell 2. I'm also assuming you have an inferior cart to an M3 Real such as an R4 clone and that is why you hate M3 because you are jealous?

One thing I know and that is you should keep buying they're products, they are one of the best flashcarts around and they shouldn't goto waste. Think of the jobs which would be lost if you do that, especially in this financial crisis.

By the way, there is such a thing called "spell check" learn how to use it
