I'm literally getting so frustrated with this...

I've had a little help from someone in the discord.

I cannot boot and am getting a black screen with Grub 2 minimal like bash editing... I'm not familiar with the in depth side of these custom bootable PEs.

I'm not allowed to share but I had a script off a member of discord , which was supposed to check the files are present, and then check the integrity of them(hashes). This has shown me that there are multiple files missing from the original torrent download for 21.06. So why are some files missing and for some people they've managed to get Medicat booted no problem? Why is there a discrepancy there?

I've followed all steps correctly as per the INSTRUCTIONS folder , and it still does not work and just will not boot. I never manage to get past the Grub minimal like bash editing supported screen. Can someone also provide some clarity on this issue, I am so lost and just wanna use Medicat as it looks awesome and to my liking!

Hi Zalex,
download the version of ventoy from home and it will prepare your USB pen directly with MBR (check on the small window mentioning the version of the ventoy and on the bottom right side you will see the MBR or GPT type of partition table).
Thanks to Jayro's hard work, still preserves the possibility to have a pen with MBR, and don't forget to format the main partition from EFS to NTFS if you wish to use VHD system's (including the Medicat VHD provided by Jayro).

Did both, Ventoy's site and MediCat.


Actually the Pens work but the newer doesn't on the main computer.


I would like to avoid to rewrite the 30Gb again so I'll try to fix the Boot partition.

Not sure how many people faced this kind of problem.

It would be useful to add the Test with a single ISO that Ventoy's setup works before paste the whole MediCat.

Try it again, but using MBR instead of GPT.

I re tried the whole process. Ran Ventoy this time MBR. And i then reformatted the main partition of the drive to NTFS. I left the 32mb ventoy partition, double checked everything and i still get the GRUB error?

Do you have any suggestions i really want to try Medicat! <3

UPDATE: Seem to have ruled out it could possibly be my usb , i tested just ventoy with 1 or 2 iso on a different USB stick & voila it works. So there's something weird going on with the drive. It might still be fine to store data but just not for doing the plethora of work that i do.

Try in another computer.

If you are in Windows, try MobaLiveCD.

After conver from GPT to MBR, clone Partition from another Drive from Image and live...

Finally needed to redo the Pen :/
But now it works fine.

I'll try whether the VHD works on this USB.

Consider to Add to the GUIDE:

Test Ventoy either as GPT/MBR with a small ISO.
Once you confirm which of them works on your drive, extract the Full MediCat files.

PS: Either GPT/MBR would be unseen in some computers and Medicat will not boot.

You can save modifications on W10 system itself in the VHD.

You need 8Gb or more for that.


The other would run on less resources and you will need NTLite or similar to apply Graphic Drivers or other things to W10 WIM file if needed.

The best is having both on the USB. Once you make the full MediCat USB, just add the 30GB VHD file to the VHD folder, and you have the best of both worlds on a 64GB or larger USB stick. A USB SSD is recommended though.

Hello personally I bought a Samsung M2 and an ICY BOX enclosure for thermal dissipation. Just take a look.

The Jayro advice is pretty good also.

This is the way i made my VHD with @Jayro advices and it flawless managed it!

This to ask, if using an online, would be possible to share that VM to easily edit the System and capture to WiM?

Hi,

I recently bought a M2 USB3 box (because I wanted to try a faster solution than my ultra slow write key and because I have a 512 GB M2 disk with bad blocks I cannot use in production), I pushed ventoy 1.0.51 and MediCat 21.06.
This box is working well using GPT or MBR in several laptops, however, I have 1 desktop PC which does not see it at all and one laptop which fails at grub boot stage.
In the non working computers, I tried my 64 GB USB key using Ventoy 1.0.46 and MediCat 21.06 which worked well.
All computers are pretty old computers with latest bios installed (they might not be UEFI aware to have an idea of how old they are).

I unfortunately do not have smaller M2 disks to make a try, so I wonder if other people with GRUB issue also have a large disk?

I hope this can help...

For Mini Windows 10, I built the .wim from scratch using WinBuilder and the Win10XPE project. For MediCat VHD, I installed it on baremetal (my laptop) and then zipped the VHD file to share.
