I'd say upload them to GBAtemp and keep a raw formatted copy of the thread + the images on your server as a backup.
It's what I did with me 360 hacking threads haha.

Image hosts come and go, the only reliable one today it seems is Imgur.
Altho Imgur has blocked GBAtemp once about a year ago orso.

Good luck mate, sorry about your picture losses.

Hey @Elliander looking at the bbcode for your OP majority of the links are hard-coded to fbcdn (Facebook) images. In the 5 years since the post was created I'm not sure if Facebook changed how direct-linking works to images, perhaps the images were deleted from the profile (presumably yours as one DOES work if you follow the link manually).

Actually it looks like some of them are even stale links. DNS record no longer exists for the ones on the domain fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net. Doesn't look like postimg.org is a valid domain either. Since these were hosted off-site I'm not sure there's going to be too much that we're going to be able to do for you :( I do recommend though that if you do find the images, edit the posts and upload them directly via GBAtemp's attachment uploader; otherwise as Dinoh suggested imgur would probably be your next best bet just as a personal recommendation.

Edit - looks like I was beat to the punch by a few posts ;)

Actually Facebook in the past deleted direct links to images within a few days or weeks, I dunno right now, and if it was still a thing in 2015/2016 or even later. I know 'cause a lot of the images I had saved by bookmarking the direct link in 2013, were dead within a month or maybe even less but I didn't notice.

That's actually a very good idea, and reminds me of what I started to do when referencing research papers. I used to link to the originals in a report, but now I print as PDF and link to the originals and my backup because too much goes offline eventually no matter what I do. I'll remember to start doing that in the future.

Thankfully nothing is truly lost. Just buried. I save everything, but it may take me some time to actually find the old images. Then I guess I should start looking through my much older threads and see what is missing and where.

yeah, it's possible that Facebook changed the links on purpose to prevent them from being used for image hosting. The good news at least is that this gives me a clear idea of exactly what image goes where, at least where the images are still online, which should make it easier to fill in the blanks.

Well, the first step was automatic. After the video was uploaded to YouTube by the Wii-U console content ID would automatically flag the video's music as infringing and then put ads by Nintendo on the video. The ads would at times be longer than the video itself. It's likely that more people just didn't notice because you typically do not see ads for your own videos while you are logged in, but since we have multiple streaming devices in the house with multiple accounts I noticed it rather quickly. The manual part came when I took issue with being accused of copyright infringement when I had a valid license and decided to dispute the claim. THIS is the point that someone at Nintendo of Japan manually decided to reaffirm the claim which resulted in a copyright strike. Since those emails were all in Japanese it's likely that whoever did this didn't even have the ability to read what I wrote about the license, and since Nintendo of America wasn't involved it would explain why the telephone operators didn't believe that it was manually done by Nintendo.

Nintendo does monitor sites like this though, so it's possible that this very thread did play a role in their decision to back off, but it was too late. It did affect the life of the console and I haven't even used the Wii-U for anything other than playing Wii games since this issue started, let alone bought new Wii-U games, so it absolutely cost Nintendo money and they never earned a penny on the ads given the very low view counts. Someone at some level must have realized all this, or maybe corporate realized the legal headache it could cause if I ever did decide to sue them. It might explain why MKTV was removed from the Switch version at least.

In any case, after I fix the old images missing, I plan on doing some tests and then updating the thread with what I figure out, and then probably won't reply to the thread again unless Nintendo changes position again.

I would need to guess what's happening here but I would say Nintendo isn't doing this manually but they have some kind of bot (maybe even in cooperation with YouTube and on YouTubes servers) searching for copyrighted contend and informing YT. The fact that your last e-mail was in japanese could mean you got it from YT japan cause they talked directly to Nintendo (in Japan) about this issue. That said most likely Nintendo is informed that the issue exists, let's wait and see if they fix it.

BTW: That Nintendo customer support says you're wrong is normal, just don't talk to these guys: That are support dudes in a callcenter, not engineers / developers knowing how Nintendo works internally.

Lastly I hope you'll reupload the images soon, might be more simple to tell if this was a bugged bot or a drunken Nintendo employee with them.

//EDIT: One thing that comes to my mind of how the bot might got bugged: Maybe Nintendo created it for MK8 deluxe (so the switch version) and maybe the switch doesn't have the "upload to YT" feature (could someone confirm this? I don't own a switch), so they simply forgot to filter out content from the Wii U version. Anyway, that's just speculation and Nintendo won't tell anyone except YouTube (it might even be NDAed between the two companies) so all we can do is wait and see. :)

Nintendo has the heaviest foot when it comes to copyright (possibly one of the most aggressive of all time?). Although this thread is 5 years old at this point, it shouldn't be much of a surprise to anyone that Nintendo does this. I have had a YouTube video blocked worldwide and given a strike on my channel for showing literally 7 seconds of Mario Kart DS footage with 4 minutes of other unrelated original footage. That's just one example, I've had plenty of videos copyright claimed for the visuals or use of gameplay, and over the years I have had multiple false strikes on my account from them and many videos taken down completely for showing gameplay along with commentary and other stuff in the video unrelated to the game. Of course, these claims are false and definitely fall under fair use, but this is Nintendo, the same company that hasn't fixed joycon drift after over 3 years of it being a massive problem and DMCA'ing everything that has a relation to them even if they no longer make money off of the original game (SM64 PC, Mario Battle Royale, etc).

Many claims are automated, but many claims are also not. Most of my videos are manually claimed months after uploading them since I don't include copyrighted music. Fair use does not exist with Nintendo
