Question for you Watarukun, a few weeks ago, before you released beta 4, you mentioned that you were considering publishing your next patch (or a version of your next patch) which would not contain the bits from Rudolph's patch (built in). Would you still be up for that?

If I understand the theory, then a flashcart user would just apply your translation patch and run the rom. As opposed to someone using no$GBA, which would require the addition of Rudolph's patch to the rom after applying your translation patch. (e.g. my kids - they're playing your translation on our Vista computer using the emulator; I can't because my laptop sucks at running no$gba.)

Come to think of it, that strategy would potentially confuse/incite those noisome users who always pipe up with 'I can't get your patch to work', and we don't need more of that (!) so... perhaps a better strategy would be to provide a patch for M3 users that would restore the bits Rudolph's patch changed to their original state. Your audience for that patch would be only flashcart users such as myself.

Could you swing that?

I'm more than capable of applying patches and unpacking and repacking roms, but I don't have the skill to analyze the before and after of Rudolphs patch to derive the delta bits. (At least I don't think I can... hmmm... could xdelta assist?)

I'm asking because, as an M3 flashcart user I am still occasionally getting hit by freeze-ups even though I have the arm7 patch installed. I suspect it is due to the arm7 swap essentially fixing one thing, but breaking another... or just not covering some other circumstance besides the primary use case which was to fix the pokegear. Today, for instance, my character walked into the GTS for the first time, and like an idiot, I said Yes to some prompt from one of the NPCs and then got hit with a freeze up.

Hey guys. I've never really posted on here, but I've been keeping a close eye on this thread ever since Wataru first started translating. It's made quite a bit of progress, and quite frankly, I wouldn't care at all if Wataru stopped translating; he's done enough, and someone else could pick up where he left off.

I have a small question that may or may not have already been answered in this thread, but I just want to be sure before I start playing. If I use Wataru's translated version of Soul Silver, will I be able to use the SAV. file on different ROM, such as the official English version? I don't want to start playing only to be stuck with a half translated version of the game. It may be a dumb or obvious question, but I'm new to the whole flashcart thing.

For the most part it should, but there is a slight chance that some part of the save/load code will be changed in the English version, in which case your save file will be unusable.

For example, if a single class or function's name is changed, then the save file will likely change accordingly (It's possible that it won't, even if they do change - the code for save/load could translate between the old and new).

So, 99% chance it will work exactly as it did, 1% chance the whole thing blows up and you have to start again. I would suggest playing the other game (If you play SS, go HG, or vice versa).

But SS saves work with HG and vice versa.
JP Platinum saves work with US Platinum and vice versa.
JP DP saves work with US DP and vice versa.

Also, will it be up to Olivine or Cianwood??? (if it is a dialogue translation. If it is a minor text translation, what will be translated???)

I knew that, but I think you overread my question: I wasn't asking what his total project will accomplish, but rather what the next installment will bring (i sounded a little to professional. lol)

In other words, what will the next patch be up to; Cianwood's Gym (Chuck) or Olivine's Gym (Jasmine)???
