Since they're on firmware 8.1 and relatively cheap I was thinking of importing a second new 3DS to keep as a backup so 2-3 years down the line if I need another one I can break it out and use Gateway on it.

My reasoning is that even if they do come out in America, if I run down to target say in 2017 and buy a new one, it'll have a much newer firmware version that might not ever be supported by gateway.

Or do you believe that given X number of months, even newer firmwares will eventually be supported?

Also the most important question - do I get white or black

This is completely based on your opinion. Personally, if money wasn't a problem, and I was looking at getting a backup console, I would wait for the US release, which is Friday :) then you can see the fw, and if it is compatible, you can pick one up to store away, or even sell down the line, since 9.0 NA consoles will be rarer and rarer every month after the first 9.4 console wave comes in.

Actually it's not coming out in the US unfortunately :( I have to import everything. My main reason for a Gateway was actually just to use games I already own.

oops lol, I missed that part of your post lol. been up for 21 hours so far, so excuse me :(

have you considered importing from Europe?

Also, I don't really see the n3DS lasting much longer than 2-3 years, so I feel a launch console should survive this long. I do believe a higher fw may eventually be supported, but no one can be sure. One thing you could do is sell your current n3ds 1/1.5 years into use, and switch to your second one. that way you shouldn't hit any problems with system life. Also 8.1/9.2 consoles will be hard to find so your 3DS should hold it's value really well :)

Personally, I think it will survive the 2-3 years, but if you can afford it, go for it.

Actually my first one is from Europe the 2nd one will be from Japan for price, since it's just a backup I can wait to use it til there is a region changer.
That is a concern of mine, that the lifespan is only 3 years :/ But I've worn my current 3DS out from Pokemon..

Thanks I agree on value.

Oh, btw, get the opposite color if you go through with buying a 2nd :) no fun in having two of the same color :P

I don't have a wii u anymore to test it myself, but if homebrews are not visible on the wii u menu I think you can press L + R + minus to open the plugin menu, there should be an option called "homebrews on wii u menu" or something similar
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    nope
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
