Ah. I get it. Thanks.

Oh, one more thing.

I never quite got this: Is this simply a menu/item translation, or will you go into the script? I can live without it (actually, I'm playing it without any translation) but it'd be nice.

No script.

aw. i actually thought that an english script with the cool jap voice acting would totally kick ass! though being an ubernoob with haxoring i dont think(?) it's even possible tho. but ye, mad props for this!

It's possible, but it's waaaay more work than just doing the menus/items/equipment/spells (months of work).

Alright, so the patch.nds file is supposed to be played? It's only 53,000kb, where the original rom is 131.

I'm hating myself over this right now. If anyone wants to really help me get through this, my AIM is KAJReDsKiN2005.

I'll upload the patched version for you and PM it to you.

that is if you want to wait 2 1/2 hours for it to upload.

If that offer's still open (any time today) I'll take it. I'm having no luck otherwise.

I know it wouldn't work for items, I just have a few reasons.

...
5. Wait, why Ydrops? Why not Idrops, or iDrops?
...

Sorry if my points are mixed up or anything, and that I even responded on the matter.

I feel lightheaded.

5. Maybe because my native tongue isn't english and Ydrops was the first word that popped up. And the second name is probably copyrighted by Apple.

First of all a big THANK YOU all for doing this translation

I'm a tad confused here... will you guys translate the whole game.. or just items/spells?

^^ So when a character speaks in the game.. theres no subtitles in japanese? If so why cant you translate the japanese subtitles?

Basically what im asking is will the whole game be translated to english or should I wait for the actual retail english?

Sorry but im a bit confused here

OK: let me put this as blunt as I can.

We will not be translating any part of the story. No subtitles. No text boxes. No, not even that cool scene

If you have never played FFIV, I highly recommend waiting for the US release. If you grew up with FFIV, but can't read Japanese, this translation project is aimed at you.

I hope this clears up any remaining confusion oO

OK. Then I ask you, make the documentation on HOW to translate the story available. That way whoever wants to take on such a project can. Everybody wins.

That's not my territory, you would have to ask Mr.Belmont.

I must tell you though, it seems rather silly. It's not just a copy-and-paste ordeal. But who am I to deter you? Talk to the guys doing the programming, and perhaps they will lend you the information you require. They also have stated repeatedly they aren't going to be doing the story, so don't get excited

Hey, instead of using the cut-the-vowels method in spells, why not just use the original system? I mean, Ice, Ice2, Ice3.

It'd be a lot easier on the eyes.

Personally, I think this is a great idea. It's a great way to make it look a lot "cleaner" without losing the actual purpose of the spells.

anyone else having issues with the words staying on the screen and not dissapearing untill you enter battle? Im not using the R4 or anything like that, im using no$gba emulator....Wasnt sure if it was just my copy of the rom or not. BTW, Thanks a bunch for the Translation

no$gba won't play FFIV (patched or unpatched) without having glitches. The text will repeatedly layer over itself and the battle scenes have garbled backgrounds.

Basically what im asking is will the whole game be translated to english or should I wait for the actual retail english?

We currently have no plans to translate the script. Maybe some basic strings like shops and stuff, but don't expect a full dialogue translation from us. Also, DeJap was THE translation group. They are legendary amongst the scene.

I completely agree, but next time how about you ask the rest of "the team" before making such statements. Also, GET AIM NAO! Both myself and Jisteatin us it for all our communication and we'd like for you to join us in such conversations.

Everyone said:
ZOMG!!!! Teh game is broke!!!! Why can't I make it work?!?!

Make sure that the rom is unmodified and unpatched by any application or transfer program. The original rom should be 134,217,728 bytes. Also, make sure that the rom is in a folder with the files from the .zip and no other games. Then run the .bat and place the rom named patched .nds onto your flashcart. If you use a transfer program then make sure to run it through that first.

OK. Then I ask you, make the documentation on HOW to translate the story available. That way whoever wants to take on such a project can. Everybody wins.

Check out RomHacks.NET and RomHacking.NET for some tutorials on learning how to translate roms. Don't try to start with FFIV though, as it's a little more coplicated. All of the text is stored as Unicode not ASCII.

I must tell you though, it seems rather silly. It's not just a copy-and-paste ordeal. But who am I to deter you? Talk to the guys doing the programming, and perhaps they will lend you the information you require.

Give a man an apple and he'll full for a day. Teach a man to grow apples and he'll be full for life.

I was representing the team based on the numerous communications on the forum/wiki. Besides, no one else who actively works on the project was awake or on. I got aim, SN=Raganook, just for you

.

Anyways, I was only representing the interests you had previously relayed to me. I wouldn't make any assumptions towards anything else (such as whether or not you will provide others with means to translate the story).

I'm personally against the old naming system, but it isn't my call. I only translate everything
wink.gif
. So put it in however you two would like.

I was wondering, will you translate descriptions or not? There's not much need but it could help for the new spells and items.

Also will you do anything with scan? I'm thinking about the golbez right in particular, for people that don't know any japanese it might be difficult to figure out his weakness. Since they first have to find out which line tells elemental weaknesses then remember the symbols for it and find it in a description of another spell (unless they use the color coded ones for scan like most spells have in battle, then this point is moot)

*I hope we translate descriptions. I don't know if they found the locations. If they dump the text, it will be translated

*They have symbols in the game for weaknesses. A flame for fire. An ice cube for ice, etc. So it's unnecessary. But again, if they find the location, it will (hopefully) be translated. There isn't many words down there either, just "strength" and "weakness" really...

So I uploaded it to mediafire, and come to find out after waiting two hours for it to upload, mediafire does not support anything over 100mb. Figures it tells me this AFTER I wait two hours for it to upload.

I don't like to use RS or MU, any other suggestions?

edit: alright, so I didn't compress it into an .rar file at first, but I am doing that now and I will attempt to up it again.

Please keep this discussion free of roms and what not. The mods will close it if it gets to be such.

Yaaay, someone likes my idea!

But we're split in the middle...

If worst comes to worst, you could make 2 versions, each with different translations on certain things. One group for clarity, one group for consistency.
