Don't use gateway.

Edit: More Useful Information

My recommendation would be setting up and emunand and following Plailect's guide(link) on setting up A9LH(Arm9LoaderHacks) to boot into a CFW(Custom FirmWare) like AuReiNand or CakesFW

SkyChotik, why would you tell him not to use Gateway without using any argument ?

Personally I bought one and I'm very happy cause I don't have to unscrew my back plate and wait 15min to install every time I wanna play a new game.

About the question, I still suggest to install Menuhax and use the Gateway 3dsx until they release a9lh support.

Why? You can still use Gateway with A9LH using a 9.2 Emunand + firmware90.bin
Yeah that's actually what I'm doing but it takes as long to boot into GW CFW for the moment so it's not that useful.
And maybe Plailect will update his guide for GW when it comes out that's why I think it's better to wait if you're a beginner in the 3DS hacking scene.

Hey OP, don't mind all the anti-flashcard guys. A lot of people on this forum have a problem with spending money apparently. 90% of them probably don't have a job. I've been a gateway user since day-one back in August 2013 and i am happy with my purchase :)

I doubt Plailect will update his guide for GW. There's no reason to do so.

It's not that I'm anti-flashcart, I just hate the GW team. They tend to take open source code, add obfuscation and bricking features, then release it as "innovation." Even so, they still take long as balls to get features out (a9lh support has been integrated into CFW for almost 2 months now)

Edit: There's also no reason to buy a gateway nowadays when there's free and open source CFW that can do everything gateway can (minus .3ds support). Back when gateway was the only solution, there was no problem with buying one, but nowadays there's almost no justification.

You never need to unscrew the back plate, use an FTP program like Brony, or use FBI+SocketPunch, or NASA+Houston.

Drag&drop .3ds directly onto a microSD and play, you must admit, is pretty convenient compared to CFW installation, FBi injection and CIA installation that takes forever.

And besides, all these exploits that allowed 3DS piracy were known for years and out of reach for the average user. If Gateway had never came along and discovered them independently (no doubt with help from the 3DS vulnerabilities page at 3Dbrew wiki) we would all be still paying for our games and our best homebrew app would be a gameboy emulator right now.

Everyone will call me a fan boy or whatever, i don't care. I am just giving credit where credit is due, they really did jump started our fabulous scene :)

The two waves of console bricking was still a dick move thought, regardless!

they need to have a strong line up on the launch titles too. I think they should move metroid prime 4 to the next console because by now it has been quite a while and there's no release date scheduled yet
