Thank you OP, helped me softmod the wii of a friend of mine.
It did went wrong with preloader tho, but then I noticed that wasnt neccesary, because I already installed bootmii as boot2

perhaps it would be good to add something about HBC being upside down, what to do anyways, because alot of people I know use your guide, and when they see the upside down HBC they freak out, and dont go any further. It would be nice to just add, if the HBC is upside down, Just do this and continue.

It might help since your guide is becoming super popular now. But you know how people are something goes a lil weird and they lock up and freak out

hi,
i followed this guide to the letter and every thing worked and for once i recieved not one error message or failed to install message, unlike some other guides i've used. so thanks.

The only problem i'm having is when trying to run a a backup game from disc (Dvd-R) all i get are error message such as not a valid dvd. etc. I use imgburn to burn my iso and have a sony DRX-700UL re-wite drive. Is this drive not able to produce valid backups or do i need to change a setting in image burn to make the wii recognise the disk or have i missed something in the playing backups part of your guide. could you please help as its driving me round the bend...

many thanks

kidchemistry

P.s I'm such a newbie when it comes to playing backups on consoles but playing backup PC games on my computer i,ve nevered seeemed to have a problem with.

Hi, unfortunately I'm having problems while trying to downgrade the IOS15 with the TBR.

I got the error after "setting the revision to 0..."
The error shown is:
"Error: ES_AddTittleStart returned -1035, maybe you need an updated Downgrader
Error: Could not set the revision to 0
Downgrade failed"

My wii version is 4.2U

Any Ideas??

I have a Wii with console system 3.4e. I have homebrew channel installed etc and want to install the trucha bug. As the homebrew channel is installed on IOS36 does HBC get removed or affected by patching IOS36? Thanks, Rob.

Ignore my previous post regarding HBC. I patched IOS36 nand HBC ended up upside down but re-installing Homebrew channel sorted this out.

I have since loaded preloader v0.29 and run into problems. Preloader loads and I get the menu (systememnu, homebrew channel etc) but this is as far as it goes. i cannot load homebrew or systemmenu. If i try to load systemmenu it says there is 'the sytem files are corrupted....'. On the preloader screen it says there is an important update to v0.20. Should i try to install that next?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I assume it is something to do with running preloader on a 3.4e system.

Hey,

I've been out of the Wii-Modding scene for a while now... my Wii is currently at 4.0U (HBC and USBLoader GX are on). I was just wondering, what steps do I need to take it in order to get my Wii to play New Super Mario Bros?

Will I need to update the firmware? If so, which method should I use? I've been hearing Trucha Bug thrown around, but I'm not 100% sure what it is.

Thanks!

My Wii is currently at 3.2J and I loaded New Super Mario Bros onto my external USB HDD and am using HBC and USBLoader GX and the game plays perfectly..... I was worried about needing a more recent firmware version loaded, but everything plays fine on 3.2 so far....

how come you didnt mentioned removing IOS249 while NeoGamma R7 IS INDEED USING IOS249. Hmmm.....

Is it alright to remove them after I modded my Wii via AnyTitleRemover? DOPios detected them as useless. Hmmm...My WIi is hacked and can play fine so I was wondering if there are any other things I need to do as optional. Thanks.

PS: I was looking at the other 4.2 modding topic.

what? remove cios249 because detected useless by dop-ios? maybe you are referring to "stub cios 249". 249 is the main cios for usb loading aside from 222/223 so why remove it?

I said IOS not cIOS. I dont know about cIOS because I dont remember installing one.

DOP-IOS detected as useless the IOS249 after I hacked my Wii. I dont know how to use DOP-IOS because all IOS are trucha-signed and I dont think I need to update more.

I dont remember removing it nor replaced it. All IOS are trucha signed before I used DOP-IOS so I am asking if I should delete IOS249 and all those "useless" ones after I trucha-signed the IOS. according to DOP-IOS, there are 3 stubbed IOS in my Wii which are, I think, 249, 222 and 223, not sure about the last two

Thanks

Hi. I just got a v4.1u with serial LU72+. I installed HBC (without bootmii) by this guide.

If I want to follow this guide to softmod my wii, shall I start from the first step ("4.2") or from the second step (
"Getting HomeBrew and BootMii")? Do I have to upgrade to v4.2 first?

Hi all. I'm very new to this too. Only bought my first Wii a week or so ago. I, like leo808, didn't come across this fantastic guide before starting the hacking process and followed the guide on Wiibrew.

It all seemed to work fine and the Homebrew channel is now installed and running on my Wii running 4.2. I wanted to install a back-up launcher so installed Neogammer and tried to run it through the Homebrew channel but it wouldn't run. So, I tried using softchip instead. This runs but it still won't play a back-up I made. What I need to know is:

Did I miss out a process?
Is it maybe just because my back-up disk isn't up to scratch?

Many thanks

might be that you've got a one of the new Wii's with a drive that wont read backups

Thanks for the reply. That's bad luck if that's the case

I'm annoyed I didn't see the guide here first. Now I don't know how far I've got. After installing the HBC I just ran Neogammer through it. I didn't do anything about the TB or restoring it. Do I need to go back and do this?

I should add that an original game run through Neogammer if that helps.

hey there.

i apologize for asking.

i had a friend softmod my wii a while ago (probably back in February or march of 2009) i don't know what was installed and what was not installed. however, i do have the homebrew channel currently.

currently, i can't play many of the games (like muramasa, new mario bros, guilty gear and king of fighters) now and i don't understand why.

right now i have a 3.4U wii and it keeps prompting me to update my wii system.

is there anyone who can point me in the right direction in terms of how i can store my wii to pre-mod stage and then follow this guide to do a new softmod?
or is it possible to keep my 3.4U softmodded wii and make it compatible with the newer games?

i don't use a usb external hard drive, so right now all my games are discs (not sure if this information is necessary)

sorry, im really bad at this stuff. i appreciate any input.

use the guide longtom1 linked
i keep it updated on the regular

it seems Deviyl has stopped updating his guide.
