Trying to mitigate a ban by restoring a "clean" backup is a bad practice, unless you haven't touched internet after backing it up, the logged information will differ from the ones Nintendo has on their servers and will most likely get you banned.
That is why it is best practice in those types of scenarios to make a NAND backup and stay offline until you need to go online. It is still not a viable long term option due to the limited amount of times you can write to the eMMC.

Hi Draxzelex,

Do you mean if someone gets banned, that person can then restore their original NAND and it will enable them to play online again?

How many write cycles do you estimate the eMMC to have? Just curious btw

Just to add my experience. I had SX os and was playing “backups” of botw and dk for a few weeks and ran minimal homebrew. I deleted my WiFi connection so it would stay offline. Yesterday I decided to go legit and I proceeded to reset the switch without deleting save data and formatted the memory card. I connected to WiFi and paid for and downloaded the games I was playing and the previous saves loaded right up. So far I have no issues and I am not banned. I even tried playing fortnite and paladins online. All is running smooth, and I hope it stays that way. So, in conclusion I think depending on how you modify your switch a reset may be all that’s needed to go back online.

Bought a switch a few days ago. Never connected to online, backed up nand before doing anything, updated to 5.1 using ChoiDujour and installed autoRCM. I've played nsp's and modded games with layeredFS. If I restore the nand I shouldn't have anything to worry about right? Other than if they can maybe detect RCM or injecting the payloads.

Use the tool called hekate to back up your nand. It saves it on SD card. If your SD card is not big enough, it saves it in parts so you can move them to PC in between each round of copying. It can take a while, several hours if your SD card is slow. You should still do it.

There have yet to be any reports of a ban with a restored clean NAND here. That does not mean we can be 100% certain there will never be. There is always some risk becuase we don’t know what N knows and what evidence might still be left behind.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
