Hi all, its been a couple of years since i used my N3DSXL but i've been wanting to play some older titles lately and was wondering what the optimal way is to play DS games on there. Is there a hack available, or is this only possible with a flashcard of some sort. And is there a way to play both gba games and ds games on there, or would it be one or the other depending on the method? Thanks for help!

Buy the carts and use them in the slot. :P

For GBA games, you will either want to use virtual console injections made with New Super Ultimate Injector, or open_agb_firm. They both fundamentally work the same, but have different interfaces.

TWiLightMenu provides access to GbaRunner2, but it is not as good as either VC injections or open_agb_firm. mGBA is another alternative, but its performance is very poor (especially on "old" 3DS units) and it is only of interest because it offers emulation features like fast-forward and savestates.

For playing DS games you have three options:

1. Use original cartridges
2. Use TWiLightMenu++
3. Use a flashcard

A good flashcard might give you more compatibility in some games, but TWLM++ is free.

Besides all that, you need to use TWPatch for searching the way you find best to scale DS games to the 3DS screen - even not scaling it by default, or using other interesting features.

For GBA, the best is OPEN_AGB_FIRM. Second place comes GBA Virtual Console injections, in case you want to open those games from main menu. And mGBA comes at the third place (only recommended for New 2|3DS models), for playing rom hacks that don't work on original hardware.

Everyone else has said the things I concur with. But hell, I'll chime in anyway.

The definitive way to play DS games on the N2DSXL and N3DSXL is to use TwilightMenu++ to load the games. As for GBA games, the best way is to run them with Open_AGB_Firm and install a launcher for it to boot into OAF from the Home Menu.

ahaha very funny. only I am a developer and a master in laptop repair. I am not a fan of consoles, never repaired them, never played on them, and have no idea what you are talking about here. I just came to show you a tool that can simplify your work on modding PS4 and PS5 BIOS.

If you do not need any tools, and you want to continue laughing and perform these tasks on modding BIOS slowly - do as you want.

I know that any thematic community can be very toxic to new people and will joke about them for any reason.
But I am like that too, and I can joke too.

Only I am from another field of activity, in which you do not understand absolutely anything, and there they will laugh at you if you come there for the first time.

No offense, this is just a response to your jokes :)

Help me get past the rules, or else I blackmail the PS community, is what you are saying? Well no getting past the rules here. If you want to post links, you must have a certain number of posts first, it prevents spammers.

I don't want to bypass your rules on purpose.
But I don't have the time or desire to make 5 posts on a forum unknown to me just to publish a link to an open source project.
If you don't need it, just say so.
I don't need any bypassing of the rules, and I especially don't need jokes at my expense.
I'll even delete my topic entirely if yo
    u're not interested.

@lapot2, not so much trolls as just a little over a half dozen chumps who hang out in here regularly and chitchat about various things. Usually not even gaming lol. Hence it'd probably be better to just get a few posts and interact with the community a little bit so you can share the link directly :)

@DinohScene , I created a topic a long time ago, but I couldn't attach links to it to GitHub with materials for self-assembly of the device and a short review.
that's why I wrote to this chat later :D

The open version, although it does not have many conveniences, but even without them it will be more convenient to work than with any other tools like ch341 and ezp2023.
Well, the full version is still impossible to get in Europe, so this is not even an advertisement for a paid device)
