DQ 10? Yeah, that's not coming over. It's an MMO released on the Wii, a bad choice, the Wii U, a worse choice, and it came out on the PC to try to recoup some of the losses. They even brought the game to Android. They are obviously desperate. We'll be lucky to see it at all, as I'm sure they can't at all justify the costs of localizing. DQ 10 was a mistake. A bad one. I doubt they will ever venture down that path with DQ ever again. They tried to pull an FF 11 with it, and all we saw was that there wasn't enough lore and other material, much less interest necessary to turn the DQ series into another SE MMO.
1. The PS2 was a piss poor choice for an MMO as well. Saying that anything outsold the only MMO that tried to make a name for itself on the PS2 is not exactly impressive.I would love to see some sources cited for the assertions made in this comment, but since you haven't brought any, I pulled some for clarity's sake:
*DQX, on Wii alone, vastly outsold FFXI on PS2.
*FFXI was ported to PC and 360 which, by the logic outlined in your comment, means SE was desperate, and that FFXI was a massive failure, but if we count them, scraped together about a million units sold, total, which, oddly enough, is the number of units sold on Wii/U combined for DQX, not including PC or Android, and FFXI benefited from actually being released in NA and Europe, unlike DQX, which had to make due with Japan/Asia.
*FFXI, on much, much smaller per unit sales than the average FF, wound up as the most profitable FF, ever. (Which is why, even though it 'only' did about as well as DQX, overall, there's a sequel in the form of FFXIV, a game they basically made twice because there was so much potential money on the table.)
(And for a game that's a total hellish flop, they keep doing regular content updates, which would seem to fly in the face of the assertion it was a massive mistake.)
All that said, I think the ship on DQX has sailed for anyone outside Asia/Japan, but it certainly isn't for the reasons outlined by Nathan Drake, and probably has as much to do w/ there being virtually no market on consoles for sub-based MMOs outside of Japan anymore, FFXIV being, perhaps, the one exception, though I think the jury is still out on that one.
*And before anyone starts in with "hur, hur, VGChartz", compiling numbers from Media Create et al is something a chimp could do, which makes those numbers pretty damn reliable.
