This new IOS236 installer feature is awesome....

Actually, it is a little bit not user friendly (create the ciosmaps.xml file etc etc). Since this is a very basic feature for softmodding, why don't you evaluate the opportunity of including it in the installer by default? for example in the "Working IOS" screen you can heck the presence of IOS236 and choose it by default if installed, ask whether the user want to install it otherwise....

In any case, thanks Dragbe and NutNut for this awesome installer....

Hello guys, first of all, amazing work you've done.

Now, I'm wondering something (this is like a special request lol). I have an external (generic, Vumerang external enclosure for SATA drives is says) USB enclosure with a 3.5" 160GB SATA HD (it needs to be connected to an external power source besides the USB cable).

However, no matter what I do, I can get it recognized by any USB Loader and any cIOS version. In fact (and TBH) I think I've tested this drive since the first waninkoko cIOS's lol... doesn't matter if I reformat it as FAT32, NTFS, WBFS. I've also tried the Hermes cIOS without luck.

Of course, the enclosure works perfectly with any PC and, here's the interesting part, it works just fine with WiiMC, the drive gets recognized instantly and I can watch videos without any issue (I'm on FAT32 right now).

I've used a USB ID software to get the USB HDD ID number, don't know if it could be of any use:

Code:
USBSTORÂÂ0:ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ USB\VID_152D&PID_23386190414B812
USBDISKÂÂ1:ÂÂÂÂ---ÂÂUSBSTOR\Disk&Ven_ExcelSto&Prod_r_Technology_J81&Rev_ABEA6190414B812&0

Device Name: +[G:]+Dispositivo de almacenamiento USB(ExcelSto r Technology J81 USB Device)

PnP Device ID: VID = 152D PID = 2338
Serial Number: 06190414B812
Revision: ABEA

Device Type: Standard USB device - USB2.0 High-Speed

Chip Vendor: JMicron
Chip Part-Number: JM20337

Product Vendor: ExcelSto
Product Model: Hi-Speed USB to SATA & PATA Combo Bridge

Wondering, if there's any chance to get this working...

You know, I don't want to enter in any details, but I recently bought another enclosure for the drive, and that one worked 'fine' with any USB Loader, but it was a pain to get it working fine with my PC and had some trouble with the power source and the Wii (I made a thread about it lol), so decided to switch back to the old one I have. I don't want to spend more on another (and more expensive) enclosure, if there's a way to get this one working.

So, thanks a lot for your help and if you need more data, just tell me.

BTW, and on a side note, I have other external HDD (2.5") and flash memories, and all of them work without any problems thanks to this cIOS. Again, really great job.

You are not the only experiencing this type of stuff. My HDD works fine with USB Loader CFG, however if I let it sleep in the System Menu and then try to access Usb loader cfg (cios d2x 249[56] v6) it freezes. Now this never happens with WiiMC, I can let the HDD sleep in the System Menu and when I access WiiMC, boom! my HDD wakes up fine. Maybe this is IOS58 (used by WiiMC) doing some magic here.

I think this has all to do with the USB code in WiiMC that Rodries has been painstakingly refining with all the USB Test Utility results and error reports gathered. So I don't believe it is an issue to be dealt with via the cIOS...I could be wrong though...this is just a penny worth of speculation...

I hope that's the case, but every time I mention this to the CFG forums or post a issue it gets closed saying it's either a cios issue or my HDD issue.

Well, I did some more testing and decided to install this cIOS (the hermes cIOS 'MOD' from rodries).

And guess what? It worked! (tested it with CFG and WiiFlow and, of course, using the 222 variation for each Loader).

However, if I want to switch to 249 (I'm using d2xv6) for a specific game, both loaders crash and I can't run any game, BUT, the games work fine if I leave the default 222.

Now, at least I know IT IS cIOS related.

Now, I don't know any technical details lol, but I just hope any changes made by rodries to the hermes cIOS could be implemented in d2x as I prefer this one over the hermes one. Would be REALLY awesome.

Sorry, I'm stressed out by work, so there was no time for testing. I will check the new installer next week.

d2x cIOS installer is dedicated to d2x cIOS and I want to respect this theme as much as possible. Furthermore, I'm sure that R2-D2199 will develop an extended softmod homebrew with the IOS236 installation feature

Also, I tested v7a1 and syscehck is freezing when he scan the cIOS so I built v7a1 with v6 EHCI module and then syscheck works well !

It's not a syscheck issue, I get the Freeze in every App when I load the IOS.
But it happens only at some base IOS.

Base IOS37: freeze
Base IOS38: freeze
Base IOS56: works fine

@NutNut: Finally, I found time. Well done! The screen is not flickering anymore, neither in menu nor while installing. Awesome.

I apologize beforehand if this problem has been answered. I'm having a hard time trying to word it correctly. I find it best to simply describe my situation.

So, I used this awesome guide here to softmod my wii a couple weeks ago so that I can play backups:
http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-g...stem-menus.html

Neogamma works fairly well, but some games play like crap. I read somewhere that it's because burned copies are read slower. Sounds plausible. Then I read that USB games are read faster. So I decided to switch to usb loader GX (or some other usb loader). I ordered a 16GB flash drive and it'll be here tomorrow.

That got me thinking.. "Am I gonna need to update anything?" So, I searched usb loader gx on google and went to its website, and that's when I got confused......

"The extermination of the evil stub ios249
The installation of our beloved cios38rev14"

As far as I know, these two parts of the guide allow me to play backups. And even though I haven't tested my usb flash drive (comes tomorrow) to see if there's a problem, the modder in me has awakened and I simply want to update my system to the best possible version. So, the things that I want to find out are:

#1. I'm assuming cios38rev14 is outdated, correct? And if so, is cIOSX rev21d2x v6 the best thing out there, or is that something completely different?

#2 If cIOSX rev21d2x v6 is the best out there, how would I go about getting rid of cios38rev14 and installing cIOSX rev21d2x v6? Does it simply install over the old, or is that just wishful thinking?

I was reading over the guide on how to install cIOSX rev21d2x v6, but I'm so new at doing all this stuff that it's simply over my head right now. I'm not even sure if there's going to be a problem. Maybe they don't even conflict. Honestly, I really don't know. I just don't want to brick my console.

Anyway, I just need to know if I can install cIOSX rev21d2x v6 without any worries.

Arigatou.

Use ModMii to install it. It installs over the old like it wasn't there.

Lol, have you never seen a hot girl? Sorry, couldn't resist.

All joking aside, I disagree that base 56 is the best option. It will load just about everything except forwarder ISO's, Black Ops, and Conduit 2 (with headset), but that only covers backup loading. You need base 38 if you want to use old apps or certain apps in an emulated NAND.

As for old apps, I cannot think of anything important that won't work with 249d2x56, IOS236, or a patched IOS36. But I guess that's a matter of opinion. There's also Hermes' IOS202 if you need base 38 for something I'm forgetting.

Tragically, I was born with primitive sensory knobs instead of eyes, so no.

(Sidenote: All I can sense with them is pain).

Thanks for the quick replies.

I'm not really sure what forwarder ISOs are, and I don't have backups of Black Ops and Conduit 2 so there's no problem there. Does 38 do most backups?

And one final question, is running a channel from the wii menu better than running one from the homebrew channel, or is there no real difference?
